Here's a handy explanation of spark plug wires, common problems etc. When fitting wires (new or used) back onto plugs, I check that the metal terminal clips fit snugly onto the spark plug terminals - a gentle squeeze with pliers often helps.
One thing they don't mention is that wires age - when they get old, the outer insulation gets fine cracks that let the spark out. In a dark place, you can see the spark running along the outside of the wire, often jumping to other wires or to ground. If your wires are good, you don't need WD40 or other treatments. If you need WD40, you're overdue for new wires.

I also buy a V8 pack of wires so I have lots of length to play with. My coil is mounted on the inner fender. Cheers

Bluebox & Dan, thanks for the replys. Ok, I have been under the impression that I needed a special shielded protected wires. Look as though that is not the case. So I'm just going to find a nice wire that will go with my engine, thanks again for the insight and help.....

Yes, I have a 123 ignition system and love it. I have a Bosch ballasted coil (nothing fancy) that came with the car and at some point I put fresh but otherwise stock wires on (if I recall correctly). I would not be surprised if my coil is no longer up to par, but since I haven't been able to drive the Mini since last November due to health issues, it is a bit academic. Stock wires are more than enough, unless maybe one is running some sort of super coil. They just have to be in good condition.

7mm Accel wires is what I use in my 123. The large wires were 8 mm, which is too large for the cap.

The operative word is "old". Plug wires deteriorate with age. Treat yourself to a new set. Speaking of old wires, there used to be some with thicker insulation, but they sometimes didn't fit the dizzy cap well.

No fancy wires needed. I am running a set from Bosch #09041 for an MG Midget with my 123.

So I am in the process of getting ready to pull the trigger on a 123 Distributor. I have seen multiple posts of others whom have one and seem they like it. I have some older spark plug wires, not sure if they are shielded for electronics or not??? What are others using for their 123? I've been looking at Luminition blue leads. Though I am not finding any reviews at all. Show me your wires for electronic distributors and any comments you may have!!! Thanks & any help would be great.......
