Well, finally after several rounds of "these are not working correctly" and "yes they do, you just have aftermarket mounts and that is why and we have sold hundreds with no issues..." - Newton finally stepped up and fixed it.  It took Jon Newton to get involved and said that they now see there is an manufacturing defect on these and need to be updated/corrected.  I think they were going to pause the sale of these visors until they understand why the inside shaft areas are 1mm too big allowing the visors to swing down and not stay up - even if you reuse your old mounting pins (for Mk4 visors, etc).  If you are buying these just make sure they have been updated.

I am happy they got this corrected, but really flustered and concerned that I kept getting a different answer from their customer support team - even when they sent out the originals and then the 'updated ones' - and even when I sent them those youtube clips (above), they seemed to have a different answer as to why it was something wrong with my mini or my original mounting brackets or I simply did not push them in far enough.

Regardless, Newton came through and really impressed with the nice email Jon sent my way.  You don't always get that with a majority of most vendors out there.  Case closed.

Here is the end result:

Yes, earlier brackets were metal then changed to plastic. Don't have one to hand otherwise I would upload a picture.

Have found this still allows brackets to fit and is sufficient to hold visor in place. Alternatively hunt out some of the older style metal brackets. These have a set in them which can be tweaked to tension new visors.
Lee - thanks for the reminder - may try the shrink method, although there is only about a 1mm difference in the apeture opening from the OEM to the Netwon version.  But to clarify...did they make metal brackets for the Mk3 and 4?  Thought that was only for say Mk1, etc.  (I have a Mk4 with plastic brackets).

I had the same problem with my visors last year.  Now one stays and the other does not.

I am in a bit of a 'discussion' with Newton Commercial.  Has anyone seen this kind of defect below?  Using my original plastic visor brackets on 2 sets of brand new Newton Commercial visors.  First set (original set I ordered last month) do not stay up.  They said there may be a possible defect in the visor that they knew about....sent me another set (second video below) that was corrected and does same thing.

I clearly know that brackets wear over time, I tested again (third video below) on my original factory set (as well as another from a friend's Mini, not video'd here) and you can see the difference.

Anyone experience this in the past?  They are saying it is my brackets that are worn, but cannot see how this is possible.  I asked them to test their own reproduction nbrackets on another set of their visors to be sure, but I am at the point now of just getting a full refund.

This is the original set I ordered with my headliner using my original brackets:

This is their "warranty" set of visors using my original brackets again:

This is set of my original old OEM factory visors with my same original brackets:
