I have the single beam rear subframe, so that is not in the way. I realized that I'm missing them nylon inserts to screw into but even still I should be able to see how it should fit. Does it matter if the mini is jacked up or not? Does it need to be approached at some sort of angle?

The Mini World mob struggled an aftermarket tank - I've had my OE tank and aftermarket one in and out several times on Tubbs with no real issues. It's tighter than a duck's bum, but relatively easy with the subframe in.
On the '62 countryman it was a doddle.

There is a Project Van featuring in September Issue of Mini Magazine. The guy and his friend apparently couldn't get it into place with Rear Subbie in place. They finished up having to drop the Subbie to instal the Tank.

I'm at the point in my van build that I just about to install the external tank and fuel lines. I have a NOS tank and the screws for it.
what is the trick to get the tank all the way up in place?
