Super trick alloy radiator for all Mini applications, weighs only 4.75 lbs. If you want the best of all worlds- this is the answer! Great cooling, light weight and fantastic looks!

This new alloy radiator is ideal for all Minis after the MK1/II. Will fit the earlier cars if the built in radiator shroud is removed. For cars from 1992 on, modification of the LH inner wing/bonnet may be required.

It includes the lower front threaded hole with a screw plug to drain the radiator. This bung is also the correct size to fit the C-ARA4445 Radiator Sending Unit for later cars.

An aluminum radiator cools better than a copper brass (Stock type) radiator. For example, an aluminum radiator with 2 rows of 1" tubes is equivalent to a copper brass radiator with 5 rows of 1/2" tubes. Aluminum provides high efficiency, is lightweight, and has a longer life compared to copper brass.

Bolts used to secure this radiator to the shroud are part# ARA1117M, 6 required per radiator.

Approximate capacity of this alloy radiator is 1 1/2 quarts C-ARA5000 ALLOY RADIATOR FITMENT Made specifically for pre 1990 cars it has however been fitted to later cars and has a drain plug which is the same size as the screw in type sender unit as fitted to all later cars.(See C-ARA5000 sender unit) The header tank on this radiator is 10mm wider than standard biased towards the inner wing and on post 1990 cars where the engine is ½" further forward fitting is not straight forward, but has been achieved by competent car Mechanic/engineers. Please do not attempt to fit this radiator to 1275cc post 1990 cars unless prepared to make modifications, as the fins will get damaged making it non-returnable. CHECK BEFORE FITTING Take the cowling from the engine and make sure it fits the radiator easily and file out mounting bolt holes if necessary, which makes life easier when fitting in the car. Make sure you fit short metric cowling to radiator bolts. Place cowling in position loosely but do not attach until the radiator has been dropped in place and checked for fitment.(then fit to cowl). Ensure the front of the radiator where the top hose fits clears the lip of the wing to avoid damage. You may have to cut the tab from the boomerang shaped upper radiator bracket that sits against the thermostat housing, to allow movement and modification to squeeze the top tank in . Make sure the fan clears cowling all round. The variants that make this radiator difficult to fit on post 1990 cars is that the engine is further forward and the subframe mountings might have wrong alignment. The engine mountings available also play a critical part in alignment as well as any previous accident damage repairs.

Question:
I need to replace an existing alloy radiator in my 1977 Mini Estate, alloy radiator has a leak. The car is now running your 1380 HP engine. I'm looking at your C-ARA5000 radiator but the product description has all sorts of fitment comments that I'm not sure apply. My car also had an electric fan installed but it was a real pain to remove the radiator. Ugh. I wonder if an electric fan is really necessary for street driving? If so, I need to find a replacement that is as thin as possible.
Answer:
If you've already got an aluminum rad, the replacement shouldn't be any thicker, honestly. I can measure it if you'd like. Most of the aluminum rads over the last number of years have been basically the same.

You shouldn't need an electric fan, no. If you're running an aluminum head without a bypass you shouldn't run a thermostat but run a blanking sleeve instead: https://www.minimania.com/part/11G176/Classic-Austin-Mini-Thermostat-Blanking-Sleeve

Unless you're getting stuck in traffic and sitting and idling a lot, the car should remain cool without an electric fan. A lot depends on the type of driving and what how your cooling system is configured. But an electric fan isn't generally necessary.
