I used to work in the paper mill that made the filter paper for Fram.

Never bought one since...

The short ones are Fram 3614 not 3600 as i previously stated, Purolator10241, and STP S3614.

Not sure about where you are but the selection of 20W50 is getting smaller visit. The very thin oils are in great supply. Gas is coming down as oil still seems to be going up. Steve (CTR)

Steve-

castrol, 20/W 50 or valvoline 20 W 50 ,, always try to buy the oil from the companies that support the racing teams and tracks

And as quoted by mightymouse on a related thread-" AMSOIL full synthetics are generally Group IV and thus are less compatible with seals. They have a lot of additives that make them more soluble and retain their compatibility with seals. In an older car with pretty worn seals you MIGHT see an issue, but the chances are so low that it's a moot point.

I posted about Amsoil as our Canadian classic mini racers,Rachel & Andy sell this product-

The Fram PH3600 is the long one. I like to use long filters and good oil. Steve (CTR)

K&N is a very short one....although expensive.  I've used it on my 1275 Midget as the taller WIX one is way too close to the frame

Fram PH3600 if memory serves me correctly Larry. Purolator and Bosch also have a short one i will check the Purolator number tomorrow for you.

A member of our club did a tech session about oil filters, using a Fram and a NAPA 1374 in comparison, by sawing them in half, lengthwise. The NAPA had multiple filtration devices, the Fram was nearly bare in comparison. Maybe a well-known name, but buyer beware.

Your engine would have been from an earlier year then.

Yes you need to change the filter base to a modern spin on base. Everyone makes them, mine is a Calver(KC)

Okay, I'm still a newbie here, but I've read this thread a couple times and it "sounds" like there are screw-on oil filters out there that can be bought at most any auto parts store that will work on a Mini.  However, my stock 78' Mini 1000 has an oil filter that doesn't look like it simply screws on like modern filters do.  I haven't had my car long enough to need an oil change yet, but it appears the filter has a long bolt that goes up through the middle of it. Is there an adapter I can buy to be able to use the newer type of screw-on filter?  I don't see any such adapter in the oil filter section of our host.  What am I missing?

Personally, I would never install a Fram oil filter on any engine I cared about. I've seen too many that have come apart, blown off or were too restrictive due to poor design and caused engine failure. My Mini came with 2 spare Frams that went right into the trash....
