People come and go, some are lightening rods. I have found once I read a few posts I know weather I need to read more or not. All though I don't reply to BC's posts here I did call him the other night. Had a short but pleasant call. Did not get an answer to my question I did get some ideas.

Someone has me getting quotes each morning via the net. Some I like some I don't. A recent one gave me a chuckle. " Difference between genius and stupid is genius has limits " As for getting along with people my AA sponser used to say pray for the person three times a day and let me know how you feel after two weeks. Jeg/John I hope you do not go.  I know for a while there you had mostly dissapeared.  I Was pleased to see you starting to post again once in a while.

I recall many years ago (2005 perhaps?) when I was down on my luck and had very little or nothing in the way of spare cash or parts you helped me out w/o even being asked, for a T-STAT gasket and studs for my Mini. I'll never forget that act of kindness.  Every once in a blue moon I will send someone some small part or do some random act of kindness, always remembering you and some others here that helped ME out when I needed it.

(if you need a part or two and I have it, I'll gladly reciprocate - just email me privately...is your car down?)

I always love reading about your black and white striped Mini there in Denmark that has one bad azz spray bomb job that anyone but the concour folks would love to have.

Take a breather if you must, but please stay.

I don't check the forum religiously like I did one time, so I guess I missed all the goings-on the past few weeks did I ?  For every idiot I've encountered on the internet, there are 10 more that are what I would call 'good people'.  Sometimes it's all a blur.

Hopefully things will look up for you in the near future.

Visited with Swedish Mini friends (some new, new) in September.  Missed Jeg in Denmark (dang).  Been out in the bush hunting...so have missed what most of this is about.  But, looking back, I am aware of simply ignoring some bits of it.  Sometimes deliberately ignoring someone's twits is the simplest solution.

Jeg & MM you are valued by me!

We have the 'Kruise 4 Kids' Christmas Toy Run on Sunday.  Our Club has a few hundred dollars to contribute to the Lower Mailand Christmas Bureau and some toys.

Oh, and I can get new Van tailight gasket sets (base to body, lens to base) in Australia.

Going hunting again too....

ah yes, the sicko thread... When I was called an outright liar and having some EU liberalist agenda for saying I had nothing but praise for my 29 year experience of the NHS and disdain for how much I had to pay for medical care in my first two years in the USA... Happy days indeed!

It's been fun, but this place is done. I have no hatred, and appreciate the good times. But this place now belongs to Tony and his pink mini.

Well said, Air2air. I second the (e)motion.

I agree that robster's behaviour has been pretty bad. (I like the analogy of the screaming kid in a nice restaurant, and the puppy needing some pritned education.) It makes me wonder why he's still here while BC, for all his past faults, but who of late has been far more respectful, informative, articulate and friendly, is still the subject of censorship. At least he doesn't waste my time.

Malsal,

You are right, its been in every post he has, the same old routine. He sounds to me like he is a teenager that is just starting his car adventures and has no idea what it is to own a classic car. (A very lost teenager) I like to feel that people are not really that ignorant to common sense, butI can always be proven wrong. In the long run, maybe he does not need the car and should turn it over to those who are better fitted to care for it. Maybe he will wise up and get the tools he needs, and if not, I hope he is not foolish enough to keep the "project until a better time" to try agaain. Those are the people who bother me the most.

A little story, My great uncle has a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner, factory 383 with a 4 speed on the floor sitting behind his shop. Its been sitting there since the '80s, in western NY waiting for the right time to restore the car and bring it back to its former glory. He has been offered stupid amounts of money, but will not sell. He is in his 80's now, and the car is nothing more than a rust bucket, its too late to save now. If he had realized that life is going to keep moving even if he doesn't. I believe this may be Robsters future if he doesn't wise up and start doing the work. Nothing will be handed to him and the only way to get something is to work your arse for it. Maybe he would take some cash/ trade for a newer car to get it out of his hands and into someone who will actually do the research/job. Until then I will be paying attention to the created by area of the topic.

Robster, take it easy, buy a manual and start reading, also think about your question or issue before bringing it to the forum. If you have something that is truely stumping you and you can not find the answer, then by all means use the experience available. Please stop using this experience to answer simple questins about swapping out distributors, and other parts that don't solve the problem. Always start with the cheapest part and work up, instead of replacing the whole assembly, try replacing the components that make up that assembly, such as instead of replacing a whole distributor, try replacing the points/condensor/plugs/and wires. Most of this is common sense to those that have been working around cars most of their lives, and it does take time to learn, but you are not going to learn by asking a bunch of questions and only taking the advise you want.

MtyMous & jeg, You guys are some of the greatest sources of information and I am truly sorry that you feel this way. Let us know if there is anything that those of us that appreciate your wisdom can do for you. And please stop by the Forum as often as you feel the need to, although I would rather you stay.

Wow, now I need to get off my high horse.

Robster has been told this on not a few but numerous occasions 76 by myself and others but unfortunately he does not listen and as a result he has unfortunately allieniated a few members along the way who will no longer help him. If he does not take some time and learn the basics himself and repair the car correctly he will probably get frustrated and fail with the restoration of his Mini.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

This forum has been in the past 10 or 11 years I've been on it, a cluster. Unfortunately there is a lot of information to be had.

I've never understood the need for the ignore button some forums have, but damn - since the beginning of September the atmosphere in this place seems "wierd" and I usually close the browser before I even get past the first few topics. In the many years I've been on here, I've never seen it quite this bad - and I remember a lot of the past colourfull topics and conversations...

Jeg, You've been around here longer than me. Sorry you're going  maybe check back in a few months; See if we have an ignore button - or maybe natural selection will take its course...

It's been fun, but this place is done. I have no hatred, and appreciate the good times. But this place now belongs to Tony and his pink mini.

I check in every few weeks/months to see what up

Honestly it's like I never left. Same crap with a few different names

Still some great guys posting and still some annoying folks...bit like life really. Work, the train, bus or in a restaurant, always a few making trouble

I never could but really you should just ignore the ones who wind you up

Steve, god bless you for what you're going through.  And the rest of you guys in a similar situation.

To me this puts it all back in perspective.  It's ludicrous to let Web spats make a dent in real life and I'm blown away that Jeg and Mous would let such absurd trivia matter so much.

As Jemal as saying we 'younger' guys (50) are used to *actual* vicious combat online, making this forum a breath of fresh air and civility...With exceptions so minor they are easily dismissed as either unintentional or misunderstood.

To take this forum's rare and occasional bad actors seriously tells me that the reader hasn't spent enough time on forums.

IMHO much of what passes for conversation on the internet is truncated and harsh, and getting more so.  The "internet thing" is by and large not kind or gentle, and has led to more rudeness and indifference in society, again IMHO...  Every chance I get I tell people to relax and keep a good supply of salt grains nearby!  This is all OPINION!  People that are ultimately Blow-hards quickly enough expose themselves and fade into irrelevance.

One reason I mostly write in proper English is that it sounds more polite to do so, and it respects you, the reader! Even if I tell someone off, I do it very politely!

I'm with AirFair on this one. I've taken robster as a comedian providing entertainment, mystery, intrigue.... all the elements of a good reality show.  Maybe he has a Mini, maybe not.  Maybe he is someone we already know shaking things up.  Maybe he really needs help with his car, and I've just been poking fun at his spelling.  If he was on a stage I suppose some of us might throw vegetables at him. Others would chuckle.  Come on, "Airfair" is worth a chuckle!

Once upon a time I stopped in daily.  Once upon a time people asked questions about older Minis, which is something I know a little about, so I posted regularly.  Every now and then something I posted was useful...often not so, mea culpa, but I learned from every frank conversation so now I am smarter thanks to those who shared.  Today,  much of the conversation tone or topic on here does not interest me, which is my problem not the forum's.  I realize times change, people move on...  that's kool, I can too.  Seeya round the next corner, bet I get there first...

Jeg, you made friends here, hold on to them.

Greasy side down.

Air2Air, I'll be back when he changes his ways. I'm not in a war with him but he doesn't realize it. So I'll go to my summer home on other forums. I have resolved any old issues I had with any memers. It's easy to do that when both parties can act like adults.

As for my restoration, I'm still undecided if it really benefits anyone on here. Those that are interested in restoration know where to go looking and my whole build is posted there. Maybe some day I'll sprinkle some of what I'm doing over here.

Jemal. I'm not looking for censorship. I'm just looking for someone to slap the kid in the back of the head when he keeps screaming in a nice restaurant. In particular, I'm talking about the fact the he continually accuses me of being a racist. It's unfounded, and libelous. Could you imagine if some rookie nut job followed you around at every car meet you went to, jumped into conversations, and told everyone there that you were a racist? Then imagine that the car meet organizers and the cops are standing right there and told you to get some thicker skin. I'm in the military. My skin is plenty thick. Some of you may think it's cute to watch the puppy bite everyone's pant legs and piss in other people's shoes, but if it was my house he was pissing in, I'd whack him with the newspaper a couple times. No one's asking you to put a muzzle on the puppy.

Robster, No one is asking you to leave. Just asking you to leave the bad attitude and personal attacks at the door. It's unnecessary. And I really don't need you to tell me about what a warrior is. My military training and those that have given their lives before me taught me just fine what a warrior is. Integrity first, Service before self, excellence in all that I do. But military tacticians will teach you that the fight is not always won with traditional tactics. Sometimes it's best to disengage and let the enemy defeat themselves.
