That's all well and good... but here in the real world your love, passion, commitment and memories don't mean anything when you need to sell it.

That would be the one. But it's a far cry from needing that at the moment. It needs significant rust repair and panel replacement before I start reasearching what configuration to return it to. It raced for a few years and seems to have changed colors and even engines from year to year and the horns weren't present for all of those years.

Once it is sound and driveable, then it becomes a bit like your project: What lights, mirrors and other do-dads do I put on it when there are photos of the same car in multple liveries over the years.

It'll be a fun project in my old age.

It's embarassing to even think I should even consider demanding that much $ for a basket case car that will need significant welding and panel replacement, but it is in exactly the same condition it DNf'd its last race in 1968 right when Hopkirk was DQ'd in a BMC supported Mini at the same event. Well, minus some seats, an engine, and I assume a Halda setup and plus 47+ years in storage and windshield cracks.

I'm calling this my Daffy Duck mini. And I think everyone is allowed to have one of those.

Spank, is your 1071 the one you mentioned that needed the trumpet horn on the hood?

FWIW a lot of board members have had trouble changing emails on this system most just put the new one in a signature line.

I have owned my 67 Cooper S for 25 years.Clean but a driver. These recent prices have made me think long and hard about selling my car. I love minis but I'm not hardfast on owning an original Mk1 Cooper S any longer. I dream of building my "last" mini. Some people understand and others look at me like I'm crazy for even thinking of selling. I know I could never afford to buy another like the one I own now.

I will however never sell my Countryman. That car is part of my soul

What a great looking project car... I'm glad you got what you wanted.

I love it when buyers take time out of their busy day to let you know that you are asking too much for a car... I just had this recently - a guy was all over a BINI that I was selling, was approved, and ready to buy, then realises it was priced $500 over KBB, so would email and text me several times a day wanting it for less, swearing it wouldn't sell for the price I was asking, and that I am somehow a fool / idiot / rude / etc for daring to ask anything more than what KBB says it is worth.

I ended up ignoring him ultimately, but did take pleasure in wishing him good luck with his search for any R55 after it sold for my asking price to the first person who actually bothered to come look at it. And of course, he told me I was lucky. I simply replied that he was stubborn, and will hopefully find some good luck of his own, before blocking him :-)

It's been fun, but this place is done. I have no hatred, and appreciate the good times. But this place now belongs to Tony and his pink mini.

Spot on Malsal. thats exactly what I was thinking.

Saw an unrestored Mk1 S at Goodwood 2 years ago in the 68 and prior parking lot. Had california plates covered with a UK long plate. Funny to see as I used to do the opposite to cars in the US.

It does not suprise me that it has gone to the UK. Prices for real MK I S's have gone through the roof over there and a correctly restored one to the right buyer will bring up to £25 to $30K GBP around $38 to $53k US.

Congrats on the sale.

No commissions I don't think.  If a buyer messages the seller off Ebay and makes an offer and asks the ad be removed...no fees ( I think )

I'm not up on Ebay. Can I ask what happens in a case like this, who pays what in commissions, etc?

I have a few NOS BMC items to sell so I'm trying to get a feel for how to go about it.

Thanks Jamal for all of your great help and advise over the years. It really helped with the sale and made it easier to let this one go.

You will be getting a call from me in a few Fridays from now.

Yes I know. Most everyone in the USA talked down to me about this car then tried to make a lowball offer on it, then would turn around and ask twice that amount for the mini truck they were selling me that was in worse condition than this car.

Thanks to the few of you that noticed I was doing everything I could to honestly describe the car. There were 190 some pictures of this car that went to everyone that was interested.

I got well above my asking price to cancel the auction. Would have liked to see where it would have ended up but it is what it is and I wasn't trying to be greedy. It just needed to get me a decent mini pickup and it will.

for those that thought the $10,000 was a high starting price......you all need to do a little more homework on a true mark 1 Cooper S. Specially one that had 99% of all its original parts to it.

Yes it needed total restoration but that was the point. It was priced right so someone could afford an S Cooper, and wanted an unmolested on at that.

I did researched on this dang car for over a year to confirm what it was before I even talked about selling it as well.

The car is going back home to the UK.

Auction ended so maybe the seller got what he wanted off line, or changed his mind.
