Thanks for all the compliments and fine words!  I actually started, hmmm let's see now, must be 5 years ago, unpacking of boxes from that U-Haul truck and sorting through stuff.....found the head!  Seller thought it was lost! and then it was slow....many other things going on....trips, etc... just life, etc.....
stripping the shell, finally finding a professional who was interested in helping me out as well as being capable to do the required work.. a.
Then starting the panel replacement, helping when I could, acquiring various pieces I needed or wanted from different suppliers...
Many compliments to other owners from this site as well as others, who were very willing to share tips and photos, sources, etc....
Mark has indeed done an enormous amount of work and super detailed photos, descriptions tips and sources in his database that can be a great help. By the time I got close to being done, most of that I had already done, of course.

Then, earlier this year, my friend Bill who I have known for many years, as when I raced my GT5 Mini, his wife Judy was racing a Honda GT5, he now lives a mile from me, volunteered to help out on the Moke, as he had finished the MGA he was working on. So we had one day
a week working on assembling the Moke. Maybe one more day, and we'll hook up the exhaust, fuel, little stuff, get some gas and fire that mighty 850 up. I know I have said that before, but it looks like it may happen next week.

Wish me luck!  Hope I don't burn up that new wiring harness!

p.s.  Ya......for 40 large that moke could be wherever it wants to be.....

Matt, don't be too sure, someone will come along and offer Peter $40k and that Moke will be in an island or on a super yacht

Just noticed this thread today - been away for a month, not looking at forums, etc... so anyway, good topic!

FYI, I have now almost completed a rebuild of the 1965 Moke I can call mine! It was all original, or mostly, came with 4 steel seats, 850 and tranny, wiring harness and speedo, top, suspension 5 wheels and remnants of tires.  The shell looked OK, but contained some very bad body work and lots of bondo.  I forget how many panels were replaced, maybe 10-15 , some made up by Ray my body expert friend and all hand welded in proper place. Probably would have been cheaper to get a shell from M-Parts, but at least I can say the basic shell is mostly the original, vintage 1965 edition. All solid steel now. Steve - CooperTune - did an outstanding job rebuilding the engine and transmission, I have every confidence they will run great for a long time!
How much have I got into it you ask?  Well, I haven't added up the tab, not sure if I ever will, but I am one happy camper putting it all together and about to got for some rides this fall.
A lot of words could be written, but my fingers are tired now, so here's the link to 557 as of today pictures of this saga."  Enjoy!

ps. Mark, you should write a book. I'll help.

and Al, yes, brilliant!

Great picture.

Note also the optical illusion - your shirts seem to be a different shade of blue: it looks as if you have two left arms. No wonder he wouldn't let you drive!

Personally, I don't get what the fuss is all about on the Moke. Not my cuppa tea. They are cool little utility cars, but don't have the appeal (or history) of an early Cooper to me.

But to each their own, and it's nice to see people appreciating the things (they might just be "appreciating" too much based on these prices!).
