Just gonna reiterated that not all golf cart wheels are "golf cart only" wheels. Some are, in fact, approved for vehicle use and highway use. Tires? Well I wouldn't run golf cart tires on the highway, but that's my personal opinion. 

 

As for the "Not DOT approved" comment. I've always been curious if anyone on here has a "DOT approved" stamp on their wheels. I've never had any DOT markings on my wheels. Factory OEM's or aftermarket. Heck. You would be hard pressed to find a manufacturer's stamp on 80% of aftermarket wheels. Let alone their SAE standards and test compliance. My insurance company REPLACED my factory wheels after an ccident with AFTERMARKET wheels. They did it. If the logic holds true, then wouldn't the insurance company have to prove they were compliant when they sold them to me? 

What about race tires that are actually better performing tires that DOT approved ones? I get that some aren't good in wet or snow, etc. But they are run all the time in the Mini community and no one seems to fuss about them. And what about EU spec tires? Some of their compliance standards are more strict than USDOT... would you consider them unsafe? I wouldn't run them but I wouldn't say they are unsafe. 

Lets get hypothetical. Say I'm running a very strong and proven race wheel. It WILL hold up to any forces the Mini can place on it... but it hasn't got a DOT stamp. Would you say it's f#!+@$& insane? I bet you would be surprised how many wheels for sale on this site alone probaly don't have such a stamp. 

Not saying all of this to start an argument. Just saying I can shoot holes in that argument all day long. We justify some and condemn the others. Is it right? Maybe... maybe not. Devil's advocate here.

I thought that doing stupid things to your suspension, tyres and wheels, in the name of looks and "stance" was limited to "dubbers" it appears not. 

Running vintage magnesium wheels in public is reckless and dangerous, as is running wheels off a toy. The sort of forces you develop is in a completely different order. Same with running golf cart tyres on a car. 

It's just f*&^% insane. 

Red one sold years ago. Blue one "tuned" a bit.

...and then there's the small but significant issue of insurance. If/when you have an accident, and it is found you have non-DOT wheels/tires on your car, even though they may not have caused or contributed to the accident, your insurance company may decide your coverage is null and void. Not too bad if it is just damage to your Mini, but a whole other problem if you are found liable for damages, injury or death.

Some insurance companies look for the teeniest excuses.

I was looking at a mini parts car a while back and the guy said he had used Gold Cart tires and they were still on the car, said he had been though several sets over the years.

As far as the mounting goes, I'm able to push my Yokos on my Mamba wheels by hand. I'm not very happy about that but the tires and wheels are both typical mini road pieces. I had a flat in the back at one point (low speed) and it nearly wobbled off the rim.

I think everyone here is in consensus that we want safety for you.

Aside from the DOT safe/unsafe issue of the golf cart wheels, it is pretty obvious that a 7" wheel is too wide for a 165 tyre.

A few years ago there was a guy who was adamant that 205 golf buggy tyres were safe on the road, despite a speed rating of 30mph.  He was going to hammer the crap out of them on the road to prove his point and then report back.

There are quite a few DOT approved golf cart wheels. Most aren't, but some are. There's one wheel in particular that is made by one manufacturer and sold as a DOT approved car wheel under one brand and a DOT approved golf cart wheel under the other brand. Same manufacturer, same exact wheel... different branding on the box. 

 

There is at least one person on this board running the wheel (haven't seen them around in years though) and quite a few running it in the UK.

13" superlites are rated for 250kg or 550ish lbs The sportspack wheels says 300KG? Minilites dont even have a rating on them,are they unsafe?

Apparently people claim the load rating at 750lbs ..there were plenty of posts about these on the forum who welcoms what i do ...sorry its a touchy subject for people.

I have 2 sets of wheels...but after reading im scared about my little minilites not having a load rating whatsoever,maybe the golf cart wheels are safer

I seen a 6 person cart in florida cruising with a bunch of overweight americans in it...on a road..damn those wheels mustve been screaming...had 6 people at 200 plus is the weight almost of a mini lol what about the cart? Jkkkk

I will remove 2 of the 4 tires...to mount my Jr. Dragster slicks to ..sorry i use my cars differently then you guys do..

And if i recall the load ratings were actually higher then the minilites or one of the wheels used often..

I wish i could mount them on a junker car and blast some potholes with the and the minilites to compare

if you didn't understand what Spitz said it was this. Don't use them on the road.  Sure guys will come on here and say they

use them and never had a problem. You only need one problem, and you, your car or some innocent person is injured or dead.

Golf cart wheels are not DOT approved and won't handle road conditions like pot holes.  They're made for speeds up to what?

20mph?  on grass and smooth asphalt.

Now you can press the tires off and likely need to use some spoons.

I don't golf.....so I don't know how fast golf carts drive on grass....but I doubt they are subjected to high speeds or hard cornering on pavemet.  That being said, I imagine they design golf cart wheels to handle the stresses / speeds golf carts experience......and Not classic MINIs on public roads

They pressed on by hand? Took a little working but they went on within minutes.Are the falkens easy to mount compared to yokohomos? Is it the golf cart wheels? I see people having tons of trouble with these and i was overthinking things and my buddy was like,"ill push them on without my machine ,or a tire spoon" and sure enough they were on.Little soapy water and 15mins and all 4 were on.

So,is it the combo of the tire and wheel or what? Just curious as id like it to stay this simple lol
