I will personally volunteer to help on-site. I attended Mini Meet West in Long Beach back in 1996 without a Mini and was just a spectator with some friends we all had a blast down there. I hope to drive my freshly restored 1960 Austin to SoCal in 2016!

Irvine 2008 was my 1st Mini Meet. I met many of you there for the 1st time.

If MMW16 is in SoCal, I'm sure a large group of us from MOASF would attend! We will be having a meeting next week and I will see what we could do to help as a group. As always I am also up to volunteer on-site where needed. That's what MM is all about!

Steve, this is great to read that you want to marshall the SoCal club members to once again host a Mini Meet there. As you are well aware, there's not a lot of time to make it happen, but as you say, the venues mentioned are great sites and readily available. I attended the 2008 meet at Irvine and though it was a super event.

I hope, knowing how much support you have in the Mini community of the West, and knowing how we all look forward to the annual gathering, that you will really push ahead to get your fellow Mini folks to help you make this happen. Having been involved with MMW13 in Bend, I know how much work it is, compounded by the short time span, but if 2008 was any indication, we know you can do it!

If you succeed in getting other folks to help you locally, I will personally volunteer to help on-site. I also know that at least two suppliers are willing to be sponsors, and a SoCal shop has voiced a willingness to "help but not lead the organization."

Please let me know how your efforts progress. Feel free to contact me >oregonminis at gmail dot com<

I have made it known to both Ca classic clubs that I am up for helping out again.  2002 and 2008 were the last So Cal MMWs and it is time for us to step up again.  El Toro Marine base has the best Autocross venue I have seen and it is usually no problem to book.  SCCA provides timing, cones and insurance, and I promise to organize and lay out the best course ever.  If anyone else is interested in getting involved, please contact me or Graham.  Most of it is simply putting in time on the phone and internet; the main work centers on getting sponsors signed on and a host hotel commitment. The rest will fall into place as enthusiasm builds.  Please step up and volunteer.

Thanks for the links Spank, and just as I thought - plenty of sweet Minis in SoCal!

Yep looks like I missed it by this much [].

I can understand the reservation of hosting a MMW as I know it is an extreme amount of work for all involved.  I have felt very lucky to make the two that I have and very thankful to those that have hosted!

i believe you Spank, not too much activity going on in the sdmini, on your very last mini breakfast get together thingy, i was told by a very close friend of mine that there were ONLY two, yes two Classic minis that were present, the rest were ALL Binis, like dozens of them, and one Silver Ginetta. One classic mini was red with black roof and the other one has a unique color with an ancient looking roof rack. both interior of the  said minis were in mint condition. The lettuce green "bean car" was not present tho.Cry

But i felt bad knowing that SD classic minis have not been active, and to me classic minis should have their own identity different from the BINIS, these two should not be together in any mini meeting. classic minis should have their own solid identity in the society. imo, but what can we do, mini society is compose of old and new minis.

Possible Venues:  Huntington Beach / Palm Springs / Venice Beach / Coronado beach / Balboa Park

MOALA has put on 2 MMW events since I've been around. 2002 and 2008  Both in Orange County. That's pretty SoCal. You should have bought your mini sooner.

The San Diego group has no official anything. No charter, no insurance, no president, no dues, no nothing. In short-- Hosting a Mini Meet has previously been brought up at our breakfast get-together, but everyone did what we normally do-- look at each other and ask ourselves "Who is going to take this on? Not me!" And the discussion ends.

I think perhaps SoCal MINI Maniacs or West Coast MINIs has the infrastructure to take it on, but based on the reaction from anti-BINI folks when any MINI club has had involvement in hosting a Mini Meet, I suspect the backlash / snarkiness would not be worth the effort for them.

I agree with Mr.minime, Socal has a lot of nice venues, people are nice, ambience is very pleasant, weather is very cooperating, cool breeze coming from the pacific coast and simply the sound of the waves is very relaxing.

One of the Highlights would be meeting Boison in person,i will alot at least one hour only for autograph signing because i need to rest my hand. "Meeting the Boison" should be written in the banner in bold letters.

but seriously, we need to push Socal as the next MMW venue., and moreso, considering that there are three, yes three classic mini parts dealers in the entire state of California.

So Spank should we all book a one way return flight for when all our Mini's go missing in the middle of the night?

I've had my Mini for 6 years now and SoCal has never stepped up to host MMW, which I find very disappointing considering Ellay is the rust free classic used car capital of the world!  I've now purchased two classics from down south.

Seems like there is so much potential for MMW in SoCal and I'd definitely enjoy the drive.

It would be worth it just to meet the troll in personWink

i have a house in Irvine, i'd say Norcal or Socal should be the next venue.  Along the coastal areas California is a perfect venue.

i wish Jeremy Thorpe can drive his mini from Oregon to California so i can meet him in person and have his autograph and take a picture with him.

please,please not in tijuana !!!

With more than 100 Classic & new MINIs in the Fraser Valley, the base group is there...even if some of us are getting older.

So where/when will Mini Meet West 2016 be offered.  I appreciate that Norm Nelson went home from MMW 2015 to see what might be possible in northern California.  He worked hard for a month looking at venues..but the buy in from local Mini/MINI owners was not enough.

VMC/VMCC (MMWs 2003. 2010) stepped up to the plate for MMW 2015 a year early according to the 'previous schedule'....  We had Minis from Florida, Georgia, Montana, Idaho, California, Oregon, Washington as well as western Canada.

What are your thoughts?
