Leave it alone dorks it's supposed to be an abstract type of art. lol Go critique some newbie's mini elsewhere.

Interesting how some people take comments and react. I had a legitimate question. I am not sure I was critiquing anything, but you can take it that way if you want, good luck with your venture...

Here is my answer

Art is art no matter how you take it or make it. My comment was perhaps off topic and obviously with close to 3000 views there is interest in MMW. There is a whole world of art/photo review and when people notice things about photos, they will make comments. Like when National Geographic moved the pyramids, people noticed.

Back to MMW...

Lol...yes, that's an internal tank car...the one on the page isn't.  I would have made it a "guess what's wrong with this picture" but that might have seemed demeaning...just pointed out the pic was flipped as the car needed to point that way probably

I was just bored....relax...and get back to planning the event

That is certainly a choice that we could make, but once we make the page public we cannot go back and change it. It's a dilemma that many groups have faced. Most of the car clubs that I am familiar with on FB have Closed groups. In some cases, that is because the events are for members only. In others, one suspects that keeping the information private is more about not alerting the local authorities to any intended spirited runs! At this point, we will err on the side of caution, as people on FB tend to be traceable and their homes can be found, with a little effort, so making their plans to be away from home public is not appealing. Banter and chitchat, while fun and motivating, are less important to us than our guest's peace of mind.

ArmyCook, who has been doing a stellar job on the website, is working on some interactive elements there that can take care of questions quickly and with the information coming right from the source. As we get a little farther we may re-evaluate, but for now it will stay Closed. Having someone with a FB login would give you access to the page without having to add the marvel and vastness of the Facebook time sink to your day. Laughing

I have poor self-discipline. If I sign up for Facebook, it opens up a whole new avenue for me to waste time.

The amount of Facebooking I do, and what I was anticipating the MMW2016 Facebook page to be like, is stuff like this where announcements can be made by the organizers, updates posted, and people who are registered users can chime in however they choose but people like me, who are not registered users, can still view the info and read the public contributions and banter. Like this page:

Hmmm...almost 1,400 miles to San Diego....

Pitt Meadows 75th Community Celebration on Saturday, June 4th...this means pushing 350 miles to Rice Hill, Oregon on the 4th, after the Pitt Meadows Day Parade...heading south to Fresno or thereabouts on Sunday and on into San Diego Monday afternoon.

Never been to San Diego...but have attended all California hosted MMWs since 1996...looking forward to getting there!!

Spank, to answer your question more specifically about Facebook group security, having moderated pages both Closed and Public, when people discuss traveling to an event, etc, the fact that they are going to be away from home for a specific amount of time, and sometimes can be identified by their FB info, makes having those discussions be viewable by the public, problematic. Everyone in the group is being approved by hand, so that we know that they are at least Mini people. No spammers or trolls. We can discuss aspects of the event with some reasonable expectation of privacy.

A FB login is free and very easy, and you can remain anonymous if you like. But we will also answer questions directly through email, for those who would rather not join more social media!

The Facebook page will remain Closed, for security and to keep it under control. However, in a very short time we will have the email set up so that you can email us a question and be answered directly. since we want one main source to make sure that information is accurate, either the Facebook page or direct email is the best way to go.

Our plans for the event are going to rock your world! We bring a great deal of event planning experience to the table, and a fresh and energized outlook. San Diego is the ideal venue to showcase our Minis, and it's full of non-Mini attractions that the family will enjoy. So Mark your calendars and request your vacation time, we're revving our engines!

I don't facebook. Well, I don't have a login but I do read the public pages that are available witout a login.  Is there any way to make the MMW page a public page, or is there a reason that is has to be for other facebookers only?

Bet he's supposed to quote Spitz not you tmsmith. Makes a lot of sense if I'm right since flipping the image conforms with his design aesthetics. I used to work at kinkos when I was in college

Happy MMW 2016 is in socal by the way.

Just from the opening abstract art MMW '16 already looks like a winner!

Graham, I apologize for posting the link early as I was excited when I saw it.  At this point all we really care about is - if and when.

And now that is known please take your time, there is no rush and thanks to you and all the other SoCal owners for taking this on!

It's time to mark your calendars!

Mini Meet West will be held in beautiful San Diego from June 6-9, 2016

Our apologies to anyone who tried to go to the website today and couldn't find it. We were not quite ready to go live, needing to tweek one more thing when the link was posted by someone not on the committee.

We are happy for everyone's excitement and sorry for your frustration.  Hopefully we will be ready by the end of the day, 10/19, but if not, then very soon. Keep checking as it will be clear when it's ready to go.  There will be a live link to add your email address if you would like to  be notified when registration is officially open.

It's going to be a really fun event with an aswsome Steve Alexander Autocross at Qualcomm Staduim.  See you all in 233 days!

We have also set up a Mini Meet West 2016 FB page where we will be posting fun information and Meet updates. Check that out too. It is a "closed group" which means you just have to request to be a member.  It's so we can control spammers from posting things and keep it ALL MINI.

Thanks,  Susan Reid and Joanie Berkwitz
