He has misspelled every single person's name. Which is another reason why I think he's a troll. Otherwise he would have to be pretty dense. But none the less I offer to help on the off chance that he's actually a completely oblivious newb looking for help. Everyone starts somewhere.nI'd like to have a onversation with him in person.

You need a red engine, always good for a few HP.

Unfortuntely I just to MOWOG green for a couple of engines...

3) 1275 or 1300?

4) do you have cruise control on your mini?

5)weber carb or stock carb?

6) 10 or 13 inch wheel?

7) gas or LPG?

if what your saying is true about doing 80mph, ill be very happy and impressed, no but seriously,80????

I think I've found the problem... our friend Robster needs glasses.

Robster:  it isn't "airfair" but "air2air" as in "air to air missles".

LOL!

My first Mini, a 1968 Countryman with a stock 850 and magic wand would do over 70. One day I glanced to the left and noticed a police car at my left rear quarter... I'm sure he was just setting up to pace me (in the days before in-car radar) and then tag me. I very, VERY gently eased off on the throttle, and did NOT look sideways. Later I imagined he was wondering how I was going so fast.

Another day at about 78mph, the valves lifted and one of the piston rods got a little bend in it, leaving a gentle but persistent knock.  Eventually the whole lump got replaced with one from an Austin 1100. Just last week, the Owner's Manual for the Austin 1100 donor turned up.

I've got a blown hydro line on my S and it's not run in years. I think I'll get an electronic dizzy for it.

i knew that high performance ignition kit from jeremy makes the engine runs good, no unburn gas. , i really wanted to get that, i just dont have the cash right now, you think it will work on a stock 1100cc engine like mine? i mean yes it will work, but thinking about that 60k volts, should it be bought together with a high voltage output alternator? or a regular alternator will do the job well?

dont get me wrong, the points dizzy system is ok but, in general principle, more moving parts, more prone to damages. imo

as for the time being i'm still happy with my points...

Robster - yup, though it's winding at about 5200, and will certainly keep going past there.

However I hesitate to shell out any advice here because just about everybody on this forum has equivalent engines or much better, and has probably built several.  I'm a total noob compared with these other guys with only 10 years' ownership and two mini builds.

The information from these guys is so good that I very quickly learned to read every word - twice - and humbly thank them.   It is the greatest concentration of Mini knowledge in the US for sure and likely even the UK, so you made a good choice to come here for advice.  And constant ribbing about stickers!

This engine was built at Minimania by Jemal and Tony.  Not dynoed.  It's .060 over, so a 1330. Pierce big valve aluminum head, Elgin 003 torque cam, Dodds 1.5 rockers, Russell pistons.  Drove it home in my wife's jaguar's trunk.

Carb is just the std HI44, and I have to say per your dizzy comments that I did put in Jet Motors' ultimate ignition kit ( Jeremy's a friend ) and it made a big difference over my old 25D with Pertronix 1.  The humongous 60K coil burns the plugs nice and brown, and the Pertronix 2 dizzy has better dwell over 4000 or so, I could tell it was smoother and wants to pull harder, just a bit.  So big props on the Jet Motors' ultimate ignition kit - you can see the custom coil mount they provide in the solenoid location on the wok.

I even hesitate to post engine pictures here because these guys will notice:

  • Toyota oil cap
  • Zipties on the radiator because it is moving around inside the mount and I haven't got to pulling it out and redoing the screws.
  • Clutch arm angle
  • Not the cleanest PCV routing
  • God knows what else - have to grit my teeth now and wait

Yes, but it doesn't improve performance as much as having Kenwood, JVC and Pioneer stickers up the A-panel.

A stock mini 1000 from the seventies as shipped to Canada would be good for 84 mph. This is a mini with the 998 engine, on 10" tires, with a 3.44:1 final drive. I heard that number thrown about frequently prior to the internet, and while I don't seem to be able to verify that my own experience over decades suggests that number to be very close. Normal modifications such as a header, a less restrictive exhaust and tastefully applied stickers should make a mini capable of closer to 90 mph. Now, here is where it gets tricky: removing the hot spot on the intake manifold can free up 4 HP. This doesn't sound like much, but a 998 offers about 20 HP at the wheels. Four more is a huge increase. Being able to saw the intake portion off of a cast manifold transforms a person into what is now called a TUNER. You probably think of a tuner as a guy who talks about K&N cold air intakes and cat-back exhausts while wearing pants that do not fit. Those kids are not tuners, but more often organ donors and generally marks for both the prison industrial and prime rate lending rackets.

when will we be able to buy RobsterSpeed Performance Products? I'd sure like a decal, but I am also very interested in the SU carb fuel economy turbine simulator.

I've never been pulled over in 10 years daily driving.  And nobody deserves it more.

Routinely 80 on the freeway, cutting off Priuses and minivans to interrupt their phone calls.

John if that's your car I love it.

Not only will a new speedo make the car go faster, but a couple of well placed stickers are good for between 3 and 5 more horsepower.  I know from experience; before I put them on mine, it was just dull, boring and anemic and very black.  The only redeeming feature was the white roof.  But after I stuck a few stickers on it, it ceased to be mundane.

I swear that if it had a chest, it would have grown hair.

I would pull the dizzy and get a new car and put it into the new car.

Maybe a new speedo also so you can go faster.

Rob, you're not listening to anyone's advice, so why bother asking?
