velocity,
Can you answer a simple direct question?
I'll ask again, Got ferrule? If it's missing/damaged that would explain your original and subsequent failures.
And, we won't take points off if you have to ask what it is....
Zippy, that would be pointless.

the bigger spring in the picture is bought online specifically for single carb, but when i used it, its so weak, and cant make the clip return. so i added a very light tiny spring from lowes, and in my statement i said the word "preferred" which means to my likings, i want more tension on spring, i still do believe that there should be a return spring on the throttle pedal side, but i dont want to push it because i dont want Mur to react violetly again..
remember the famous immature response?? lol

Zip's right an extra spring will put more wear on the throttle shaft and HS4 carb body eventually leading to air leaks and rough running and OMG a STICKING THROTTLE which is what you were trying to avoid in the first place. Why do you need two springs with the super dooper Japanese teflon lined $90 scooter cable anyway ? Back to the drawing board Einstein or maybe a web site that sells a perfectly good throttle cable that fits a Mini.
If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

thanks doc !
and notice the spring, i combined these to springs for perfect tension. i have tested several size springs to meet my preferred tension, until i end up with these two, it's just perfect, easy on my foot but just enought power to pull the throttle to its original position, i put some grease in between these two spring to prevent excess friction during repeated rubbing with each other.
Brilliant! I would have never thought that grease would keep two springs from binding and causing the throttle to stick.... [rolleyes]
I'll ask again, Got ferrule? If it's missing/damaged that would explain your original and subsequent failures.
Oh, and there's absolutely no reason to need two return springs unless there's something horribly wrong. Single carb Minis have been running with a single spring for over 55 years.

Zippy takes risks all right:

He's also driven several of my cars (in excess of the posted speed limit) and helped develop the Gen 1.5 Minivation Clubman hinges.

mighty, in this pic you see how the cable was attached to the carb, plus the excess cable is rolled up to secure and won't dangle around.
this is what i used, these are made in japan and very Solid. again this is not a buy and install cable, you need to modify them a little bit, if installed properly it will give you years of smoooooth stick free throttling !!!.... no oil , lol

Okay, I'll toss out some potential help with your cable problem...
Is the ferrule on the engine side of the bulkhead in place and clear?
Bear in mind I know next to nothing about these newer Minis but I can't imagine BMC/Leyland/Rover making much of a change in this area.
Oh, and as far as "risk taking" goes, you don't know me so you have no idea. I just do my best to not hurt myself or others with wild un-researched ideas..... But, that's just me.

Alright. I give up. I don't care how the cable looks from 8 feet away and draped over the engine. I want to see how it physically attaches to the carb. The point where the cable physically touches the carb. And the picture of the gas pedal i pretty difficult to tell what I'm looking at. It looks like there's either fresh metal, or a ton of solder? Either way, it's impossible to tell because of the quality. It looks like to take pictures with a potato.

This is just too funny. Yes, it is good to take pride in your work. Very good indeed.
Say, I did notice that the exhaust system is too skinny. When will it get a 3½" system with a phat chrome oval tip? Surely the one on the car is too small, isn't it?
Seriously, I would like to hear more about this torque tube intake setup and how you calculated the optimum length/girth for your 1100.

Rob,
Post more pictures of this new cable. Not just a pic of the liner. Show how it attached to the carb and to the gas pedal.
I don't see a cable attached to the throttle pedal? and also while your camera is out take a picture of the fan blade?
Mini's are like buses they come along in a bunch

"...im confident with my work but not with the integrity of the nylon lining, its old, it might be chipping inside..."
So, why on earth would you use a part you do not trust?
Fingers crossed for you. I'm sure you could use any luck you can find to keep from hurting yourself or others.
