Very cool! I built my ramps out of 2" x 10" x 10' and have a 2 foot dove tail on the end that is hinged on. When the cars up in the air the dove tail end can be fliped over on to the ramp so your not tripping over it. It works well. Just a few weeks ago i covered the entire ramp with that green astroturf stuff for easy cleaning.  I can easily clean oil and dirt off of them this way. Take a look at the picture!

Congrats you will love it!

I just wanted to follow up and say I finally got a nice 1 year old lift off craigslist. Scissor lift, was made by Norco. Retailed new for $2k, got it for $700. Super excited about it, just have to get a 2x10 or so to get the narrow mini's onto it.

Here is my question, the one I am looking at is $999, I have the 20% coupon, so that brings it down to $799, now shipping is $103 + an additional $100 and change for lift gate option. They will not ship to a store to let you pick it up. Bummer... And the stores don't stock it, and have none in the warehouse. Any ideas on what the best route to go is on getting it here for a solid deal. Still not a bad price of $940 roughly delivered. Oh and the newer of the 2 models has a min height of 3 7/8". Not too shabby...

On a side note, the customer service people sound...not located in the U.S.. All 3 that I was transfered to. So it was a pain asking any questions of different options getting it here, or where I could find it locally. Thanks for any ideas.

Se7en: well explained!

The blue scissor lift looks good for a Mini, but I'd be a little concerned that its base isn't very wide for its lifting height (higher than wide).  On the vendor website with a much larger SUV on it, it looks even more precarious. I wouldn't go in that garage. If I had the dosh and space, I'd be tempted by the scissor lift, but would think about anchoring it to the floor or providing outriggers. And I'd get an engineer to review such modifications.

On the "new product" competition run by our host, I suggested an ovesized or modified-to-suit-Mini Motorcycle lift. Since a Mini weighs about 1300 pounds (not the 6000 the scissor lift supports), it is within the range of a motorcycle lift capacity and not so heavily constructed.

Steve, you probably encounter and are exposed to more poorly used anchoring systems every day in any variety of situations and not realize them.  The safety factor based on proper installation of this unit is nearly 4.  Conventional building design is not that stringent and it also relies on proper constuction of the design.  What separates this from a "permanent" installation is the notion that this thing can be unbolted, moved and reanchored into another location, theoretically using the same bolts again. That's didn't seem to be addressed in my quick oveview of the manufacturer's literature.

I agree that it appears quirky but after detailing structures for over 30 years, I would be comfortable with the unit if I knew that the strength and reinforcement of the concrete floor slab was as required, that all the anchors were used and the depth of embedment for each was as required as well.  That's a huge caveat when you go into a 20 or 30 year old residential garage with concrete floor of unknown quality, reinforcement and depth and expect to just slap in one of these expecting all will be well.  As in all things, due diligence by the owner or the installer the owner employs is mandatory.  Sadly, that is not always the case, but the technology to make sure all the installations nuances are addressed do exist.

that max jax looks really dangerous, I would never get under one with a car on it.  The bolts could easily pull out of the floor with the leverage of the car weight out on the lift arms.  One or both towers would colapse inward, and the car would fall!

That Max Jax is probably the nicest little portable lift I've seen.  It looks like you just drill and insert liners in holes in the cement floor and pins slip in to hold the lift stands in place until you are ready to store them out of the way again.  I could really use a set of these.

I've some prices lower on he internet, but if you call them directly I'm sure you can negotiate a lower price.  A lot of these companies are hurting since the bubble bust of the housing market and collector car market.

I found a used 2 post with a 10,000 lb capacity. I offered the guy $1100. Its only a year old. He will take $2100 but I dont want to spend that much yet. My garage it tiny. The seller said he has lifted diesel crew cab duallys with it. I would really like one seeing I do alot of diesel sales. It would be slick for me. As soon as I move and get a bigger garage I will be getting one like this. I cant wait!!!

Don't see how this one keeps from falling in toward the car.  the bolt spread on the post mounting bases is very small and has a lot of leverage on them, with the weight of the car so far out on the lift arms, unless the two sides are connected togetherr in the middle somehow. Expensive too.

We have a two post (stradler type) at my partners place, but mounted outside, (in the rain).  the plastic oil reservoir has split from the Suns rays, after about 7 years, but everything else still works.

How deep do you have to dig below the floor for one of the two post (in ground) rigs?  Assume you need to go an extra foot or so to pour a foundation under the posts, or are they supported at the top, by the concrete slab?

SeatGuy Jim,
I was seriously looking at the Quick Lift, but storage was a problem unless I wanted to leave it either up all the time.  Or I could park the car on it in the down position, which would be a bit of a slope.  In the end I decided to go wwith the Bend Pak low rise lift.  The Quick Lift looks like a great deal at $400 though.  Looks like you have lots of room in your garage for it.

Kwik Lift - You just drive it on, then you put the floor jack under the tube in the back, jack it up until the the back stands come down. Very stable!

It give you a lot of room under the car. There are also some cross piece that will hold jack stands so you can work on the wheels adn get it up in the air a little more

I picked up a Kwik Lift on Craigslist. It retails for $1700. I paid $400. It's powder coated & will lift anything. It also extends in length.

Oh yeah, I ended up building ramps for the sides to drive up on to clear the lift itself. Inless you have a small pit area in your garage you will need to do the same in order for lower cars such as the Mini to clear its 7" minimum height.

You can kind of see them in this small movie clip..

Dave,

It looks very similiar to me.  I have the smaller version which is now blue from the factory. I had looked at several different versions before i purchased mine, claiming they were made in the USA, which they were not. Many of the competitor products like you said are China parts assembled in the USA. I spoke to a few vendors and none of them could really tell me that there product was actually made in the USA with made in American parts, thats when i just went to my local HF and got it. I would have been really pissed off if had purchased it for twice as much and upon delivery ( After paying shipping ) seen "made in China" on the side of the box, which probably is what would have happend.

For what its worth mine was assembled by me in Ohio does that mean it was made in the U.S.A?

I am not one that typically shops at Hf and i usually try and buy name brand stuff. I just figured for home use the components that will go bad should be fairly inexpensive.  I have not picked any car up that was even close to the 6000lb load rating. If you need more pictures of mine let me know i can post them.

PS- If you do get it at HF wait for a 25% off coupon and use that!

Which one is yours?

It's been fun, but this place is done. I have no hatred, and appreciate the good times. But this place now belongs to Tony and his pink mini.
