I run a 16" glasspack with a twin exit resonator tip, not loud at all, you can talk normal or hear music, but I think I need to measure the pipe, looks bigger than 1.75 to me.

short clip of the sound from outside,   //youtu.be/2R4hhV5ytDs

And a clip from inside wide open, //youtu.be/fq9DUGWCRS4

'Cherry Bombs'??? What about 'Purple Hornies'!!! I can't believe that no one mentioned them in this topic until now. They were way more popular than 'Cherry Bombs' back in the day, and the exhaust tone was to die for!, (at least running a pair on a small block Chev with Holley carb, Eldebrock highrise manifold and a mild race cam!) It would certainly be the perfect choice for the ultimate glasspack for a Mini. I still remember when they were outlawed. You could walk into any 'GI Joe's' store and find shopping carts full of loose 'Cherry Bombs' and 'Purple Hornies' for sale! They were no longer legal to run on street rods, but they were still for sale. I used to run a pair of imported Mexican glasspacks on my '56 Chevy that were louder than Cherries or Hornies! Dem were the days!

We had to run exhausts on our Ice racers so we chose Cherry Bombs.

They are really load.

One member of our club got a ticket for running a red light.

The cop said I did not see you I HEARD you!!!! hint hint.

Thanks for the positve word about Keith and I. We love hooking up new Mini people.

And I have to agree with Billy - even with a single HIF44 and a cone filter, plus the raw sound coming through the exhaust header, above 60kph (40 mph), the A-series music drowns out even the single-box RC40.

Eh? What...? Speak up!

(Good thing Minis have windshields... imagine the number of bugs in your teeth.)

If you go for the RC40, consider the double-box version. I bought the single box one and still find it powerful. It has a gorgeous idle and part-throttle sound, but my better half claims she can hear me blocks away. Last week, leaving the family cottage, I wound it out and my sister said she could hear it well over a mile away fading into the distance (almost flat out of course!). When I win the lottery....

But the sound does make any and all aftermarket Ricer-type exhausts sound like a card in bicycle spokes by comparison.

Dan Moffet makes an excellent point WRT negative pressure pulses.  The paper towel test is a good one.  I prefer th RC40 exhaust note, and as noted here, it is tuned for the mines A-series.  Also like the sound of the Stebro, but they're not that common any more.

I like my super-trapp but I use a lot of baffles on the end so it is loud.  May be what you are looking for.

I have a 'Trush' straight through muffler that I got from the local parts store.

It is connected to straight pipe coming off of the LCB manifold.

Originally I was going to use it just at the track, but it has turned out to be okay for the street.

I'm with Billy, used them in the late 60's/early 70's but didn't even know they were made still.

I don't know if I'd want to use one on a Mini and have to wear ear plugs all the time when I drove it.

It was tolerable on my old worn out 998 but too loud with the MG Metro 1275. Had to add a regular mufler. I did find I can drive harder/faster with the quiter muffler because I did not attract the wrong kind of attention.

Been there, done that! A bit brutal sound-wise. The big difficulty is adapting exhaust pile diameter 1.75" to 2" Cherry Bomb (only size available here).Upgraded to RC40 when I could afford it. Sound is much richer!

Better to go for a RC40 which is tuned for a Mini. anything over 1.75" for a 1275cc engine is too big and does not flow properly, according to experts. Read up on it in Calvers' Corner etc. The negative pressure pulses that travel back up the exhaust sytem to scavenge the cylinders really do work. It isn't "back-pressure" which is resistance, but negative pressure pulses. At idle on my car, If I drape a paper towel over the tail pipe, I can see the exhaust pulse push out, then the negative pulse suck it back in, shredding the paper towel. (... and no it isn't bad valves - compression is fine.)

The Cherry Bomb exhaust is up in the loft.
