Darn, guess i'll have to lean the seat back more to make it a right angle or I could just avoid front end collisions...
Is the spinal damage pro rated? I mean if I'm only off by 10 degrees is that only 11% spinal damage? Doh
Thanks for the info from down under.

Dr Michael Henderson (he developed the 6 point harness for racing in the 60's) says the shoulder straps should run at an angle of 90° to the spine when the driver is seated in the car.
I try to stick to that.

I used 1 3/4" tubing throughout for my cage, placing two of the mount points at shoulder height for a 4-point harness.

And also mentioned, the rear deck is no place for harnesses - in addition to the stretch, the deck is too thin, and spot welded without the intention of ever holding you in place.....

Thanks for the great information everyone!
I think I will get a roll bar with a harness bar, as it seems the best option for properly mounting a harness.

Too much of an upward angle could result in spinal damage. The object of the shoulder harness is not to keep the body from going up, it is to keep it from going forward.
The higher that bar mounts in that area of the car the better.

The only proper way to mount a racing harness is using a roll bar with a harness bar on it. Mounting to the parcel shelf is a joke. Gives you a racer look if that's what you're after, though.
Belts stretch in an accident. The more material you have, the more it will stretch. Proper mounting is 0-degrees up to 10-degrees of a downward angle from your shoulders to the mounting bar.

Hey all,
I'm looking to get some racing harnesses for my MK1 Mini. 4 or 6 point is what I am looking into.
I currently have Cobra bucket seats and no roll bar. I had Schroth 6-point harnesses in my MKIII, but that Mini had a full race cage with a harness bar.
I'd like to know what harnesses you guys are using, and more importantly how you have mounted them in a Mini that has no harness bar.
I've seen what looked like harnesses mounted/secured to the rear parcel shelf?
