Yes the std O ring seals around the threaded hole.

So if you don't press in a sleeve, how are you sealing the oil? Will an O-ring work with the mg threaded hole?

I have and do use inline blocks. Early on I'd set up in milling machine and bore the threads out of oil pickup union in pan rail and press a sleeve in. Learned that's not required so I no longer do it.

I dropped a 1098 Spridget motor onto a Mini remote gearbox years ago, just with a change of crank, trim the front plate and machine the lump off the rear main cap. Dowels to gearbox aligned fine, no problems. All the sump holes line up fine (heh, it's just another A series block).
[edit] I don't see a 1275 Spridget would be any different to fit.

If you're looking for a 1300 lump, I've got one here in NY that I'd sell. On LI about 1 hour east of NYC.

You need a mini specific 1275 crankshaft and primary gear that matches your present drop gears.  You then need to cut the extra part off of the rear main with a hacksaw, though a power hacksaw is nice for this.

The inline front engine plate makes it hard to fit in a mini.  You could cut the ears off, do it the hard way, or change the plate.

The dowels that align block and gearbox may require some fettling.

It's been a while since I've posted on here, but now that I've settled into a house with a decent garage, I've started thinking about taking all the boxes of parts for my Mini and actually putting them on!

I happened across a 1275 long block someone is selling locally, but it is from a Midget. I know the Midget is RWD, so obviously the transmissions are different, does that extend to the crank? the block? How feasible -if at all- would it be to grab this motor, mate it to a Mini transmission and drop it in my Mini?
