Jengstrom:

Which shifter does your Mini have?

How old is your car?

Have you ever rebuilt your car's shifter?

Shift gates are nice on front engine/ rear drive cars where the shifter is in the transmission.

The shifter on the Mini is a remote control. There are so many joints and levers that there is no precision shifting that a shift gate will require.

If you could possibly get one to work, there would be no speed shifting (if you can speed shift now anyway).

Watch what happens when someone drives your car and see how far the shift lever is moved to chage gears.

Are you considering putting a console between the front seats to house the shift gate or will you build a freestanding mount arount the shifter?

When you have it done, please post pictures.

Have fun,

Russ

Not seen gated ones, however years ago there was a flip up gate stop for remote shift boxes. It stopped you hitting the reverse gate during 2-3 shifts. Race drivers often make something similar.

I achieve the same thing by using a red die spring for the reverse lockout detent. The plunger needs the spring location spigot diameter ground down a bit to fit. And if you have a reverse light switch you need a smaller actuating pin made.

Ahh, I had not considered the noise factor. I am rebuilding my Mini and am considering all kinds of things for it.

I'm sure someone somewhere has made one up.  However I've not ever seen one advertised - and with the vibration/slack inherent in a Mini shifter I would think it would be a noisy little affair...

Cheers, Ian

Althoug I have never seen one, does anyone know if there was ever a gated shift plate for the classic Mini?
