IS that $30 CDN?

Dunno how good those tires are, but at that price you could buy 3 sets and change them when they get dirty.

Thanks for that, explains a lot. I didn't know it was an intentional move by Rover. I thought it might simply have been a different rubber compound which didn't stand the test of time so well.

I've got a 1990 Cooper ex Japan (there are quite a lot in NZ), same colour as your too, the Japanese do seem to like green and the grotesque wing mounted mirrors. I put Bridgestone GR-50 165/60 x 12's on the standard Rover alloys They will be OK at "standard" ride height, but will rub if lowered with Ho-Lo's, but mine has after-market flares whereas yours appear to be factory flares.

I've have another set of 5 inch wide rims with Yokohama Advan A048's (165/55 x 12). Handling is just OK on the Bridgestones, in fact, no better than the OE Pirelli 145/70's, but is really good on the Yokohama's. There appears to be a common problem with the 1990's imports from Japan in New Zealand, suspension cones tend to settle, becoming very hard and lowering ride height. New Zealand never got any 1980's Minis from the UK so it may be that all the later cones did this.

EDIT:  Typo on tyre size.

Werewolf, yah, I got quoted to ship them to Canada and the prices are insane. I've seen the original cracked tires on them and decided to replace them in Japan at a decent price before my Mini gets shipped. It would have cost $180 CDN for the Nankangs, $240 for the Toyos and $300 for the Bridgestones. The 60 series versions will probably add another 20% or so but I am still waiting for a quote. I wish I could of loaded my Mini with extras but they will not allow with RORO shipping.

Can anyone comment on the quality (ride, handling, life span, reputation, etc) of any of these tires:

1) Nankang CX668 145/70/R12

2) Toyo Teo plus 145/70/R12

3) Bridgestone Sneaker SNK2 145/70/R12

Any input would be much appreciated. I am getting quotes for the 165/60/R12 versions as well and am assuming these brands will be available.

Thanks,

B.

I can't comment on the ones you listed but i have some Japanese Bridgestone Potenza's on a Mini and like them better than the Yokahama A539's especially in the wet.

US

Yes, they will fit just fine. I have run both the A048rs and now the A539s on two different late Minis with factory rims. They are a very nice, all around tire.

Congrats, I hope you are importing into Canada as your flag suggests and not into the USA.

The tires will fit presuming it has the stock Rover alloys on it.

Don't sweat the colour it seems the Japanese were very fond of dark green there are more 90's Mini's over there that colour than any other.
