I don't trust amazon nor ebay when it comes to motor oil, these are private sellers   somebody told me that most of the motor oil sold at these online shops have been diluted and re-bottled and re-sealed, they wanted to earn extra cash in a bad way. Id rather walk in at walmart or autozone etc  at least i know for sure that i get what i paid for.

this is the Kendall GT-1.  Conventional oil. Not synthetic. Been using it for several years now.

Interestingly enough, a long time ago before Walmart invaded the west, you could actually buy Kendall GT at Kmart. The gentleman I worked for at the time suggested I try it.

I am sure the billionaires at Wallmart will be happy, your Mini engine maybe not.

We only need 5.5 quarts no need for 5 gallons as ours don't leak ;-)

No deals in my neck of the woods.  CarQuest (part of the Advanced Auto Parts family) charges $6.19/ qt.   I paid slightly more for it at Napa Auto Parts.  There are no Valvoline oil change stores within 300 miles.  Cheapest is $5.33/ qt on Amazon.

I'm with dimitris and waiting for tb's engine to self destruct when he comes up with his formula of 10w 40 and gear oil instead of buying the correct 20 w 50 off the shelf.

Yes, right, I knew that (as the Fonz used to say). Triggerboy got all pannicy about losing 20W50, overlooking the ZDDP part. I was trying to calm his fears. And additives can be used to bolser those brands with insufficient ZDDP. (Wait for it... the comment about additives and snake-oil solutions....)

Huh???  I didnt know there's a lot of oil brands that carries 20/50 viscosity, well then how is the phase-ing out of Valvoline 20/50 become so alarming??? This thread has become too sensationalized.

But nevertheless, if we ran out of 20/50 viscosity motor oil, i will probably do my own formulation. Maybe perhaps 1part 10w 40 then i will just add 50% gear oil to make it thicker. Ive done it before in my lawnmower and it worked just fine.

That's a synthetic oil though is it not?

perhaps the motorcycle oil is mineral..?

If it is synthetic, it's a considerably superior product including application on a classic Mini.

See if you can find a Valvoline oil-change business in your area (like Jiffy Lube, only owned by Valvoline.) I bought VR-1 20-50 for $4 a quart in a Portland suburban center. No more $6+ at NAPA.....
