If the damage was caused by the timing chain and or tensioner there is a class action law suit against BMW.I don't know if it goes up to 2010.Our 2008 s tensioner went bad out of warranty and BMW put in a new chain, gears and tensioner for free.I hope this helps.

my 2007 Cooper S uses a tremendous amount of oil. Many of the turbo engine Coopers do. I have been caught with low oil levels several times. It doesnt burn oil out the tailpipe. It seems to be a fairly common complaint with the turbo models. At the risk of being captain obvious.....did you have oil in it?

when she said "its so small" she meant the car right?

Excellent advice!  Here is a list of clubs - maybe you can find one near you.

As spitz mentioned, I would find a shop that is familiar with Minis to find out exactly what is wrong with your Mini before writing off your Mini.  If you need a new engine, do a google search on used Mini Cooper engines - that may make the repairs more reasonable...

It all depends on whether you really want to keep your Mini, or if you are ready to move on....

Good luck,
Ken

If it's still running, I wouldn't say it's catastrophic
If a new engine is needed, the car is six years old now and having someone replace the engine may cost more than the car is worth.
Selling it with full disclosure may be the way to go ensuring this is written on the "as is" bill of sale.

I'm hoping that someone on this forum can help me. My Mini Cooper 2 (2010) suffered "catastrophic engine failure" as of yesterday. It still runs but it's got some issues.  What are my options and how much should I be expected to pay for a new engine? What if I traded it in "as is" with disclosure.  On average, what'll I get paid for a trade-in? Thanks a million. I'm a female and don't have a clue!
