The WD40 did the trick!
The plastic rings that form the tank lock were really sticky.
Once I gave them a shot of WD40 they freed up quite a bit.

I always use  graphite in stuck  locks..

On the UK models some release with channel locks and sometimes they all come out destroyed of course, others the main body falls into the tank and can be accessed through the sender unit hole if you are lucky.

Is yours a UK MINI or a CA spec MINI?  The caps are different.
UK one has an inner lip.
I imagine that if a penetrating agent, something better than WD, doesn't work...you'll have to drill the lock.  Your filter would pick up any shavings if you went all the way through

Pour any lubricant, WD 40, PB Blaster in the key hole, it will release by turning the key back and forth Big AL

Anyone have any experience removing a locking gas cap?
My key does not want to work anymore. It just does not want to turn.

Also, any compatible cap that I can get locally to replace it from a parts store?
