Glad you got that sorted, now for something completely different. I don't have reverse lights,so I have wired my brake lights to my control box through a military covered switch. When backing up, you hit the switch and you can see where you are going. Also helpful when someone is trying to ride were bumper. Ask me how I know. It didn't work out so well for him! Cheers

Found the purple wire (well it used to be purple) in the engine bay.  Looks like it goes behind the instruments and down behind the switches.  Come January I'll lower the heater core and see where it goes.  Then i'll either fix the wiring to properly work (so the switch actually controls the dash lights).  Thanks All

I borrowed a wiring tracer from my brother in law.  That hidden wire won't be hiding for long.

If it's not there, the old wire ought to be flapping in the breeze somewhere near the alternator.

I'll have to take another look.  I didn't see it there, but maybe the wires there just need a hit of some simple green to show their true colors

Assuming the purple wire that disappears up into the loom into the c-pillar also connects to the reversing lights, you may find the end of it near the corner of the engine bay.

If the PO has rewired the reverse lights, the wiring may be under the car in the tunnel, or under the carpet.

The switch is on the side of the rod change gear lever.

The purple wires run up the c-pilar.  The purple def go to the reverse lights (I plugged them in) and all the other lights work as expected.  Wiring diagrams show that the wires should be white, so who knows.  The tails from the lights are white, but no white wires in the loom back there.

PO might of re-wired, but during the recent restoration no wires go via the interior carpeting or under the car.

Another wiring question.  Reverse lights.

diagram shows that power should go from the ignition switch, then to the dash light switch, and then through the reverse light switch and finally to the lights.

On my car it's different, duh.  Pre restoration I think I had a hot feed from the + battery post, to the reverse switch to the lights.  I'm trying to do it right now.

Currently the wire coming from the ignition is bound to the dash lights, so the lights are one when the car is on.  The switched side of the switch goes to the "parking lights". This lets the switch turn on the 4 corners of the car as all the bulbs are dual elliments.

In the back of the car the reverse lights are wired to a purple wire the goes up into the cabin, and i can't find the other end.  the reverse switch has two wires that both go into the trunk.

I need the reverse lights to get power when the ignition is on, so I'm thinking that i pull one wire from the trunk and get it into the engine bay and steal 12V from another circuit (like the dash lights).

Does that all sound about right or is there a better way?
