Generally the V8 sets are not twice as expensive yet supply enough terminals to make two sets of wires.  If you anticipate making them for multiple cars its just cheaper... like buying in bulk.

+1 to Vespa's suggestion.  That's exactly what I did and I have no regrets.  Most parts stores have generic V8 kits.  
They also have generic 4 cyl kits. Why buy more than you need?
