Well, I did drive a friend's Caterham, but I'm a bit oversized for it to be a regular event. Funny thing is, we'll be going to England in a couple of weeks, so if I can fit it one in the carry-on bin, maybe I'll bring one back. We'll be touring the Morgan factory--shall I try to snag a 3-wheeler? Also have 2 days at Goodwood Revival, so I'm guessing I'll see a Mini or 2 or 3. Hoping, anyway!

Thanks. I needed to scratch that itch, but my other love is Porsche. I just bought an '02 Boxster S, and I'm having a hard time driving my modern MINI. It's the one in the back garage along with the classics. The Boxster is in the primary car slot now. Wonderful car--and it joins 2 others. We now have his, hers, and ours.

Sad to hear your selling your mini, I hope it was fun, and provided some good memories, and that there will be another in your future

depending on the year.. started out of rad shroud.. 59-69 then 70-80 on front valance.. 80-84 right inner wing. 85-2001 on left inner wings.. this is for the UK cars.. I have seen some of the Jap Minis have vin plate in the rear boot.. someone might add more places for minis with the names Authi ,Inno. Cord.. Rileys ,Worsleys. Rover . BMC. Leyland, Morris and Austins.. feel free to correct me on locations on these later bc

Well, not really dreaming. It's just earlier in the evening I'd gone out to one of my other garages and nearly stepped on a scorpion, and I wasn't eager to repeat that! And the way we currently have cars and lawn equipment jammed in together back there, along with a battery tender cord blocking the right-side door, I couldn't have done it at night anyway, even if I knew exactly where to look for the plate, which I didn't.
BTW, "charrison," modern cars are so easy I wouldn't have needed to ask. Classic cars are...different. I appreciate the photo, though--I honestly had never looked at the plate when I got the car and thought it was going to be covered with grease and underneath the car, LOL.

Okay, I'm in good shape. The problem that was causing me to panic in the middle of the night was that I knew the body wasn't original. I needed to photo the VIN plate at the prospective buyer's request, and fortunately the previous owner did transfer the plate number shown on the title to the location you showed. I don't know if it's the original plate or one he had made, and I don't really care. It matches the title, and that's all I do care about. And it's just where you said it would be! (The prospective buyer does know the body's not original.)
At 2:30 AM, things aren't always so clear. And the car's in the back garage, where light is at a premium, jammed up against another car and a lawn tractor, because space back there is at a premium, too (hence the sale).
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

Looks like you are talking about your classic mini
it had to be on there when you purchased the mini
keep looking, might be on the firewall behind the brake/clutch resovar
if all else fails, buy a vin plate from Mini Mania and send it to Boxweed in GA to have it stamped properly
email me for more details

Classic mini or Bini ?
If perhaps you mean a classic mini, ie pre 2000, the vin plate should be on the bonnet slam panel at the front of the engine bay. On a pre-1970 car, the same vin plate will be next to the radiator.
Its the black and silver oval plate bottom left of this picture.

Kinda feel like a dumbaxx for even having to ask, but I'm selling the car and have been asked for a photo of the VIN. I looked in the Haynes manual, checked on this site, and even looked on YouTube. The only references I find are for modern cars where it's under the windshield next to the A pillar. I'm not finding any PHOTOS for classics. It's dark now, but I'd like to get this done in the morning. Do I need to put it on a lift, or is it visible without that? Can someone direct me to some photos of likely places, or walk me through it?
