FYI- Problem solved...
The connectors for the Vanos Selenoids are polarized. Reversing the wire connectors while replacing the connector again solved the problem. It's running awesome. After 3 years of sitting, another R56 has rejoined the motoring world.

it was just 2 wires and I took a chance. I am leaning to your thoughts that the connection is polarized. It sounds like I'm going to have to bust apart the new connector and switch the wires. Bummer. It was only $6 for the connector kit, so not too hard of a hit.
Thanks
Thanks

It's empty and you have to put the new connectors on the wires and fiddle with the whole thing to go back together. I failed to pay attention to the polarity. Does it make a difference? If it doesn't, does anyone have any ideas why this would be coding out?
can you get a bad selenoid out of the box?
Thanks for any help.

What was your reference when configuring the wiring into the connector? Did you have a schematic to follow or did you try to duplicate based on wire colors? I would think polarity would be important with DC voltages...
My suspicion is incorrect wiring - but that is just a guess....
