The final letter in the VIN, when it exists, is often stamped into the plate rather than being a raised letter. Removing more paint at the end of the VIN may help. I believe that there are Morris/Cowley plates with an 'A' that were assembled in Longbridge and there were Austin/Longbridge plates with an 'M' that were assembled in Cowley.

That's correct, just trying to confirm where it was built. Picture of Morris Cowley VIN tag attached to this thread.
Previous owner imported the car from Asia, he believed the car was originally shipped from UK but this is not documented.
According to the books, no letter at the end indicates a UK car.
Heritage do not recognise this VIN NO, their records not good for that year advised above.

Thanks for the inputs

His primary interested seems to be in knowing where it was built.

If you really want us expert to identify your Mk 2, why don't you post pictures?

Your '=' sign is actually a '-'.

Yes.

Unfortunately, I do not see where your VIN is followed by a letter. If it were, the assembly plant could be identified. Sometimes however, if that letter is left off the VIN, it is possible that the car was built in the UK. Since your VIN tag is from the Morris factory in Cowley, it would be a good assumption to make that the car was assembled there.

As John Parnell indicates in his book (Original Mini Cooper and Cooper S), production record keeping at BMIHT took a nose dive near the end of 1967, and that well could be the reason they are being of little help to you.

The K indicates a Morris but a real Cooper S would have a 4 instead of a 6. I've not seen a VIN with an equals sign. Some components have a build date which would help determine the year, eg. the wiper motor, trunk latch and many others. What does the VIN plate look like?

RHD Morris Cooper S 1275 Mk2 built sometime between 11/14/67 & 1/8/70, but the letter at end of the the VIN which you have left out, will determine where it was assembled.

Calling all experts!
I have a 1968 Mk2 Mini Cooper S, this was imported from Asia and Heritage advise this was a CKD car assembled away from the UK.
Can anyone please help me determine where the car was assembled or any other information?

Chassis VIN K-A2S6=1197xxx, this format is correct for a Mk2 Cooper or Cooper S, but UK Heritage have no record of this actual serial number as it was was not a UK car.

Car has UK-style doors and windows, and does not have the extra body/engine stampings noted for Australian cars. All other features look like a UK car.
