Thanks all for feedback and offer.
it turns out I purchased a new MS oil pump back in 1996 when I took my Cooper apart.
both are 3 bolt pumps.

Thanks Spank
looks like all links are for pumps with the short shaft.
Several people indicated the shaft could be presses out and replaced.
Mini Spares indicated the new short shaft pump is incompatible.
not sure who to believe and which specific pumps have shafts can be pressed out and are compatible.

I've used a 3-hole small bore pump and swapped in the longer pin from an old S pump. Looks like someone offered you an NOS 3-hole S pump for a good price over here

Edit: Here ya go a long nose 3 hole pump

Not sure of the drive pin length on this one

My 1966 Cooper S has
- an AEG510 pin-drive camshaft
- 3 bolt pin-Drive oil pump
- longer shaft to accommodate longer “S” block
Replacement pump C-AEG410 sells for $250 and requires drilling and tapping holes in the block.
looking for an alternative.
