I did have a code that kept popping up for a knock in cylinder 2, which is the cylinder I had a valve blow out on,  but my mechanic hasn't mentioned them being connected, although I have been told that the noise sounds similar to rod knock. I think it was throwing other codes as well but I will have to check.

You can take a small diameter 3 foot plastic hose to help locate. Put one end to your ear and the other to or near the various components.

Hi everyone, I’m trying to get some help with my 2007 Mini Cooper S. The videos show a kind of rattling noise that is coming from the engine bay. I have been told by people that it might be loose heat shielding, belt tensioner, chain tensioner, or rod knock but was hoping to get the forums opinion. The heat shielding is all in place and not rattling, and I don’t believe it is the timing chain tensioner, it just got replaced and the noise doesn’t seem constant enough. The noise IS repeatable. It only occurs when the engine is warm after about 15-20 minutes and can be created by holding the RPM at ~1000. Occurs more when car is in drive but will occurs in any gear and at all rpm, it is just basically consistent at ~1000. I am also getting a reading on the computer that mentions a knock in cylinder 2 which makes me think the rod knock but my mechanic didn’t even bring it up as a potential issue. I’m in over my head with knowledge here so any help would be great! TIA! https://youtu.be/wTm2b1OFYMg https://youtu.be/Nz68fYE-DbM
