It is a pressure cap, not a "temperature" cap. It opens if the pressure exceeds the specified amount. The engine temperature is regulated by the thermostat, which is similar but opens once the engine coolant reaches the specified temperature, and is supposed to close when the temperature falls below that same specified level.

16 psi but if your cap is not blowing its probably OK.

Good day all,
I have a 1994/5 SPI Japan spec Mini. I am not sure the radiator cap that is on it is the correct temperature or pressure. What are the proper cap specifications for that car?
HELP!
