Jersey,
Meaning, any engine that you drive hard versus drive normal or babied, is going to burn more fuel. And with Minis being so much fun to drive, it's hard to drive normal or baby them much. They're begging to drive like you're in a go kart. Damn-near is a street legal go kart.
I as well went with the D-Series Honda swap. I would agree that the engine would get better mileage with it placed in the Mini versus the Civic that it came out of. There's about a 1000lb difference between the two cars, not to mention the lighter unsprung weight of various components as well.
Fuel priced be damned. Enjoy your cars.
Eat less...buy more fuel if it comes to it. lol

.
Simple recipe for Excitement:  Take 1 Classic Mini. Throw in 1590cc's of engine. Add 5 gears. A dash of 94 octane. A sprinkle of style inside and out. Toss in 1 MadMan and finally heat tires and pavement to taste. Recipe produces 1 Mini VTEC conversion and full satisfaction. Motor on!

Markiss

In confused, are you saying with the standard mini Engine and driving them hard they dont ger good mileage? My turbo D series motor barely used any gas it seemed. I drove it hard and it still got way better mileage than the civic the engine would have came out of. What kind of MPGs do the 1275s get?

Gas is $3.66 or so here in central Missouri. Was in Chicago last week and it was $5.00 a gallon. As soon as I crossed over into Illinois it went up a dollar. Luckily I only had to fill up once in Illinois. Heading to Minneapolis tomorrow, I'm sure it'll be high there.

Even the more reason to stretch our Minis' legs.
But even with them, it's sometimes hard to save fuel on them if you don't drive it normal. And what's the fun in that. Foot to the oil pan!
Motor On.
It's sickening to take our Tundra out. It gets 11mpg. And we usually put 89 mid grade in it.

Got home saturday.  With the price of gas I figured I better get the Mini out from her winter bed.  Pulled the cover off.  Hooked the battery back up, turned the key on for the fuel pump to do it's job and she cranked right up.

Let her idle for a short time and then took her out for about a quick 5-10 mile sprint and stop to pickup a hamburger for lunch. Luckily I filled the tank before I left for Arizona.  With $5.39 the price of regular I'll be driving the Mini for awhile, except in the rain.
