I have a manual '09 Mini Cooper S (R56); my neighbor had all the ISTA software. He irresponsibly ran the ISTA-P programming part on my car. I saw the screen at certain points during the coding/programming, and all the different system's were all green. Then in what i believe was an attempt to prolong completion of this task for the purpose of extorting $ out of me, i walked away for five minutes at the toward the end, and he UNPLUGGED the K DCAN cable! Now, I am attempting to resolve this on my own, so i obtained a laptop fully set up with ALL the software and cooperating programs (D CAN Utility 2.0, Rheingold, ISTA-P, all the other relevant utilities, etc.)
So where my car is at: it is, mechanically speaking, running perfectly. Absolutely not a single problem to speak of. That being said, the digital system, or whatever yu call it (the software that governs the car and all its error lights, guages, etc.) is totally f*cked. Whether the key is in it or not, even with the car locked up and sitting for any amount of time, on the RPMs guage, the upper box chimes with a convertible top error light every twenty-thirty seconds, continuously until the battery is completely dead if left to its own devices. Otherwise, when i try to run ISTA D, i get about ten or so errors for systems "unable to communicate", which i learned means something is not hooked up right i guess. When i first boot up, i start the D CAN Utility 2.0, with the DCAN cable plugged into the laptop and not the OBD yet, and the COM1 is selected, when i attempt to select the 500mhz (or whatever the unit is, the first option of the three modes), it gives me an error timeout echo msg. I was able to get this option selected at doe point once, but now it will not allow me to select it. it gives me that error and then DCAN Utility goes into (Not Responding) and will not cow out of it with End Task or anything, until i restart the computer entirely. I am stuck at this point and cannot go any further. I have done troubleshooting on hooking up the cable and all the necessary settings changes, at least the common ones people went over on Youtube. I don't know what to do!
Also, once i get past this connection issue, any ideas what this convertible top error is trying to tell me (on a nonconvertible mini)? I am attempting to include a photo of the error light for clarification; i believe it has a very specific meaning as to what stage or part of what programming process things may have fallen apart at, or at least what status the system is in at the moment, and how to proceed.
ALSO sorry one more thing i canNOT fr the life of me get the car into PAD mode while in ista D but i believe that this is a symptom/side effect of whatever purgatory the car's software is stuck in at the moment.
help me. thank yu fr yur time and consideration. Sincerely, Babyblu

This is the erroneous \"convertible error" light that chimes until it completely kills the battery if it has its way, whether key is in or car is locked up/off or not. It's erroneous fr SURE cuz my R56 is NOT a convertible.
