The 25-year rule works in 49 of your States, but not in California... they do things differently and the only guaranteed legal Mini is pre-'68 with ~'74 as the fallback position.

Dan.. they are two more options.. but very limited.. 1.  import as non resident.. for one year. with personal things.. and he could renew for 2 more years.. and then export.. you can apply to pay double the CBP duty and keep the car in the USA.. but you can NOT register in the USA..   option 2. bring in for SHOW and DISPLAY.. lots of museums use this. but can NOT drive on US roads. without the DOT and EPA done by ICI.. importer.. cheers PHD.

I don't know, Bill PHD. Maybe he is/was a diplomat. We need him to fill in some of the details.

Things seem certainly different from when I originally joined this board in the late 90s... I need to catch-up on things...

I've edited my post. If the group feels it is such an issue, then hopefully you can also edit the responses. (Thank you!)

I would appreciate some input from the group on the 'revival' topic.

Thank you

P-H-D:

He says it has been in storage in MA (Maryland?) for 4-5 years. If it was registered there (or some other state) and he kept that registration, would that work for him bringing it to California?
He also said he bought it new in Berlin so it may be a genuine 2000 and not a re-vin.

Having a 2000 MPi in California is brave...

...announcing it as such is potentially foolhardy.

May I suggest referring to it as a 1973 Sportspack updated to 2000 spec in future - just in case.

Hello again everyone!

I am BACK! I neglected the mini  forum after starting a family, growing a business, and moving multiple times across several continents, BUT I've made my way back!  ??

I had to sell MANY belongings - but I managed to hold on to the mini!

- I've been forced into a V2.0 of my old self. I guess my old username "RICO" was deleted. Maybe for lack of use?? (I find that a bit rude!  ??  )

I caught-up a bit on the board messages and see many old familiar names still active, and read about other names being banned. I was sad to read that Big Al had passed. (My condolences!).

I saw many cool minis and mokes while in Australia but I really missed MY Mini. I need to get it back.

I am in need a bit of help in reviving my mini. I had to put it in storage while I went to live in Australia...

My mini has been in storage for 4-5 years now having been untouched in that time. It is currently located at an old colleagues'...

All my mini information, documents etc. are with the car - on the other side of the country, of course... And some basic info which was once well committed to memory is now a bit 'shaky', lets say! (I am afraid I'd score poorly on a mini quiz these days!).

I will have a day or so to spend trying to get the mini running - just enough so it can get picked-up and onto a transport...

>>> I'll need a new 12v battery which I'll need to replace my certainly dead one. Could someone please share the battery specs for the mini?

>>> Could someone please remind me of the socket size for the spark plugs? (I'll have to travel with my tools.) Fell free to suggest a tool list for my adventure!

>>> There is a sequence to reset the immobilizer / Alarm (I believe it is press the de-activate button and then depress the throttle 10 times, or something along those lines - but as I mentioned. I am not quite certain anymore!). Can someone please confirm what this is?

>>> I am open to transport options. I know had a great reference here last time I needed to ship it - but that is also stored with the mini...

Path to revival:
I'll replace the battery, Remove the spark plugs to add some fogging oil, replace the fuel in the tank, and try to start it. Hopefully the tires still hold air!

Please let me know of any other items I should address while attempting to start this car.

Thank you all in advance! I really appreciate the experience and insight on the board!
