I think that Cool Rental in Gustava St  Barts had couple  manual chokes. ( 90 automatic I was told this week by the owner.. as he called me for parts for the AMTs..  but NO real UK .OZ or Cagiva mokes for rent.. used to be few for rent in Bridgetown Barbados  but NOT been down there in  many years..  I prefer Tortola BWI . real laid back.. cheers PHD.

Tnx Bill

I would've loved a 4-speed manual REAL Moke, but we got off the plane, walked across the street and this is what we had reserved (apparently) even though I asked my wife to double and triple check that it was a REAL MOKE when she made resevervations a couple months ago.  The rental people were all very nice but clueless. (even though some of them are actually from the UK, they are so young, most of them wouldn't know a MOKE if it jumped up and bit them, LOL

The Caymans are perfect for MOKEs.  Weather was 30*C, but felt like 37-38*C with high humidity(about 100*F) every single day we were there.

Too hot for this Canadian.

To me, on Grand Cayman, especially near Georgetown it felt like being in Toronto, Miami or NYC...way too busy for my liking and wouldn't
you know it, they drive on the left !

Cayman Brac was very laid back and everyone was on "Island Time"....much more my speed.

Someday I'll get to drive a REAL MOKE....but last week wasn't it ;-)

Cheers all

Hi Ve9aa..you can find the guys name on www.minimokeclub.org that bought the 17 chokes from Avis there in Georgetown Cayman.. he is renting them. the problem with the SQR472 Engine and automatics is the the clutch motor and  AMT pump goes out.. and it is made by Magneti Marnelli in Italy. Same system used on the Lambos and Ferraris .. over designed.. also there is three solenoids. on the automatic trannys... and then gear shift leaver.  after all this replaced. the autos works just fine.  I found all these parts from Lora at www.freewai.com in china.. the trick to getting them to shift.. is make sure you put back in neutral  BEFORE you cut it off.. as it will NOT start in  gear..  you have to un hook the  battery and then the auto lock resets..  the 5 speed manuals are SWEET. no problems and no gremlins.. and will run at 65 MPH all day..   Cheers PHD

p.s.- I think Hertz only has the one MOKE left (afaict) and for an Island ~20miles long x 1 or 2 miles wide, this one sure has a lot of miles on it.
Wish I had seen other "MOKES".   The one and only "old" car we saw was something like a 64 Ford Falcon Sedan, very patina'd.

Most of the well-to-do folks (is most of the population???) seem to drive big SUV's, Merc's, BMW's etc.  A few BINIs.

p.p.-s. I think "park" engaged when you shut the thing off.  It was all very strange and kinda "figure it out as you go" type deal. LOL

Hi Bill,

Unfortunately it was an auto-box which shifted strangely.  By that I mean, 1rst gear was super low (chirp the tires) and gears got progressivly longer, so in top gear we had almost zero torque to speed up or pass etc.  Also I think it was electronic, not mechanical and the switches in the stick (I think) are wearing out, so when parked, going from R-D didn't always work.  To make matters more confusing, what you saw on the digital dash was NOT what was on the stick.  It was opposite!  I'll try to post more pix.

My cars & bikes here at home are all standards, which I really like !

It was the only one we saw on the Island.

Spent a couple weeks in the Cayman Islands and reserved what they told us was a "real Moke" but when we arrived, I quickly found out it was a 2019 Wuhu Volibear Chinesium Moke (Choke) rental car.  Still, it was pretty much an enjoyable experience.  It had 14" wheels, 1-Liter (volibear) Chinese engine, a weird switching Automatic transmission and a digital dash.

Let's try to attach 2 pix.  I only have a few more, but this'll give you the idea.

I still think it was 80-90% of the real MOKE experience but it would've been icing on the cake if it was a REAL MOKE---sigh ;-)

p.s.-bonus points for finding the 2nd MOKE in this picture.
