There's no way I'd trust putting my Mini on a folding trailer to haul across town, much less long distances. The weight and the conditions of our nation's roads would (IMO) end up breaking it in half. I normally use my 14' trailer, but I have used an 8' long trailer as well on a couple of occasions...yes, a Mini sedan will fit on an 8' trailer with the wheels on the trailer. Now, to address flat towing and tow dollys. I have flat towed Minis over 2500 miles without any issues. Likewise, I've used tow dollys to move Minis and no problems. The biggest issue with tow dollys are if it doesn't have removable ramps they might damage your sills. This is especially true with Uhaul tow dollys. You can solve that issue by putting a 2x8 cut to fit in the wheel pad area. Lifting the car that much really makes a difference. No matter what route you choose, remember to check your straps, chains, and load, everytime you get fuel.

With a tow dolly I would say un-limited miles. There would be no stresses placed on the driveline with the front wheels not rotating. Flat tow on the other hand is driving the trans from the output side and I have heard that can lead to a bearing failure in the trans. I have flat towed for several thousand miles without issue but you would not see any problem in the trans till it is REALLY a problem.

Numerous sources say a tow dolly (front wheels elevated) should not be used for “long distances” without defining what a “long distance” is. A friend says 40 miles is OK but 400 is not OK. Looking for your input.

For tire straps on the tow dolly you will not find any that will cradle the tire for our small tire sizes. I bought a regular size then picked apart the stitching for the cross parts and had them re-attached for 10" tires, sewn at a shoe repair place that had a machine that would do that. So all in a bit over $100 to buy and modify the straps. Now I think I would be ok with just a flat strap right over the center of the tire. That is how my trailer is set-up and it works fine. Just remember that after a couple of miles to stop and check the strap tightness after the car has moved a bit. First time I used a tow dolly I forgot to release the hand brake after loading. I found out one side rear brake was very good and the locked tire burned completely through a new tire in 10 miles. The only con is you cannot back up very far at all with one, you can a small distance but not far.

I visited the Apogee dealer near me.

The folding feature is very easy and would easily fit in my garage.
i do not like the price!
The 6x10 unit is $6500.

email me if you want to see my full write-up.

i may need to check out the EZE-TOW tow dolly which can stand upright.
Any “cons” for a tow dolly for a classic mini?

I like it. Looks like a well thought out design and versatile trailer. Front on the tongue. Getting the canoe racks, you probably can make a light weight enclosure.

I did see this trailer on Kendonusa but was not sure it was suitable due to its 9’ length.  The price is ~$5K.  I will take a second look at it.  Thanks Willie_B.

Looking for a trailer I can store in my garage.  No more than 15’ total length.
I only need it to haul my Mk1 mini.
you all know the dimensions.

Tilta Trailers out of Australia looks to be the best but they have no US distributors.

what options might I have?
