For future reference, the published advance values probably don't apply to your car any more. Fuels are different now and your car may have been tinkered on by previous owners (octane rating of gas, different cam, shaved head, different rocker arms, etc.)....
You can determine an advance value for your particular engine by accelerating up hill in too-high a gear while listening for spark knock. If you hear none, advance the timing in 2 degree steps until you do hear spark knock. Once you hear the knock, retard the timing 2 degrees and drive the car for a while. If you hear no more knocking you are done. If you hear periodic knocking retard the timing another 2 degrees. Record your idle speed and the degrees of advance for future reference.

Regarding the AAV needle supplied with the kit, it's difficult to provide a definitive answer without knowing the specific characteristics of your engine and carburetor. However, it's generally a good idea to follow the recommendations of the kit supplier or refer to reputable sources that specialize in tuning similar setups. If you're experiencing issues with choke beyond idle and part throttle, it could indicate an incorrect needle or fuel mixture imbalance. MyBKExperience Survey

I have an A+ 998 with a stage 1 kit, HS4 carb and pertronix ignition......i've been noticing a lot of variation in timing recommendations when i look around the internet. everywhere from 5-12 degrees btdc
currently i have it at 12deg from before the stage 1 parts went on.
Also, the kit was supplied with an AAV needle....some believe this to be wrong, i have an AAU on the way. I can get everything running right at idle and part throttle, but need to give it some choke beyond that.
thoughts?
