I want to share my experience with an inside the tank fuel pump late model spi 1995. I bought a very rusty non running mini for the engine. Upon taking the fuel pump out of the tank, I discovered that two connectors had corrosion. I said to myself, this would have been hard to discover and a tremendous brain teaser.
Minis rust everywhere!

Here's Alex's post from your other thread:
The sender unit is a basically a float on a wire arm that goes up & down with the fuel level; the floats can sometimes spilt and sink to the bottom of the tank, and this is likely to be the case here.
As Ian says, dip the tank to make sure the fuel level is below the sender hole and pull the sender out. You'll quickly know if the float has failed because it will be full of fuel (or missing).
.

I’ve got a new sending unit on order. Thanks for everyone’s help.
And on a different note now it appears that both my postings have been merged into one. Lol

I have a 96 SPI, and the fuel gauge is not registering. I've connected the two wires to the sending unit and the gauge needle goes to full, so the gauge is good. Other than a bad sending unit, do you have any ideas of what the problem might be? There are several gallons of gas in the tank.
Thanks
Terry
It's probably the sending unit. Take it out and check it.

Ian
No, I haven't removed it. I was hoping that there was another, simpler problem but in my mind I was still thinking it was the sending unit. Do you think the float may be full of fuel?
Thanks
Terry

I've noticed that some posts seem to go missing .... including mismatches between the index and actual posts appearing in threads???
Cheers, Ian
PS did you ever get the sender out and tested???

I thought I had posted my question earlier but when I checked on it later it wasn't there so I posted it again. I thought I had done something wrong about my post the first time or that the administrator had removed it,
I honestly did not see your response.
Sorry
