SPI tank is the easiest tank.... Pull off the two hoses from the top (Fuel Supply and Fuel Return. Unplug the remaining fuel pump power wire.
Squiggle the whole tank out.
Once out you'll see the whole SPI tank has a large top drop in fuel module, it holds the fuel pump. and is held in with 10MM nuts lock it down.
once pulled your whole hand can easily go in the tank.
Rarely need a replacement gasket for the fuel pump module. Do recommend a new flat seal for the Fuel Sending unit.

Can you fish it out with a magnet?

Removal of tank is pretty much the same removal for any mini tank. There is a rubber hose connection in the boot. There will be a siphon, you will need to break that pull. IAt this point I would replace the fuel filter and the "O" rings to the coupler if you have one. You may want to replace the filter holder depending on how badly corrected it is. There is a nice stainless steel replacement.

Thanks for the response. I appreciate it. No the car runs great, but I do have to pull out the fuel tank and in the Haynes manual it talks about depressurization. My float has broken off from the sending unit and the only way to get it out is to remove the tank. Have you ever removed the tank on an SPI before and did you encounter any types of problems when you reassembled it?

I pulled out the fuel-sending unit only to find that the wire from the sending unit float had rusted and is now sitting at the bottom of the tank. being an SPI I knew that this would be more difficult than a carb model and after reading the Haynes manual I was right, Pulling the tank doesn't bother me, On page 4B-5section 8 8-5 under fuel tank it refers back to section 6 on the previous page - fuel system - depressizuration. It mentions the pressure regulator and if it should need to be replaced, but a replacement is not available. Am I over worrying myself or after I put things back together, correctly, should I be golden?
Thanks for everyones comments and suggestions
