RemyLoo, Is the hole you are referring tAbout 1/2" diameter? If so, that is for a connecting rod that attches to the back of the diff. Jim

I have a 1982 Mini with a rod change gear box and the gear selector housing has a hole on each side. The hole on the driver's side has the backup light wiring bolted into the side of the housing. There is another hole in the passenger side (up high, just in front of the shifter) that is open and has nothing in it. It appears to be threaded. I assume this hole should not be open to the exterior and should at least have a bolt screwed into the hole?
Can anyone verify the purpose of this hole and whether it should be open or sealed off, or whether there is supposed to be another pickup of some sort wired to that spot?
Thank You!
