It's usually the fuzzy sliding window runners which are causing the rust stains, and that can in turn lead to the window reveal rusting underneath. It's all treatable, and new runners are available from the usual sources.

I'm not familiar with Clubman side rear sliders (or fixed?) per se, but if rust is coming out from under trim pieces the answer would be to remove and treat the trims and whatever hides behind. It may be the trims rusting or the clips/fasteners or the underlying body metal. If rust isn't fixed properly it just comes back and gets worse.

Good Afternoon
I have had my 1978 clubman estate for the past 16 years and from time to time it has been my daily driver but sadly I have let it get into a bit of a mess. This is the year I am actually going to get him beautiful again. the only thing thats irritates me about him are the rear window surrounds that seem to be the cause of 3-4 rust runs in the paint work down the body.
I will be getting him resprayed and I don't want these rust runs to reappear, HELP!! how can I stop this from happening
Kind Regards
Liz
