You've highlighted a very important consideration when upgrading the headlights on your 2007 Mini Cooper S (R56) to LED, specifically the potential issues with CAN bus compatibility. Let's break down the key points and expand on them:
Understanding the CAN Bus Issue Official Website
The Controller Area Network (CAN bus) is a communication protocol used in modern vehicles, including your Mini Cooper S. It allows various electronic control units (ECUs) within the car to communicate with each other. The lighting system is integrated into this network.
Halogen bulbs have a specific electrical resistance. When you replace them with LEDs, which have significantly lower resistance, the car's ECU might detect this change as a fault (e.g., a burnt-out bulb). This can lead to various problems, including:

When upgrading your 2007 Mini Cooper S (R56) headlights to LED, compatibility with the car's electrical system, especially the CAN bus, is crucial to avoid issues like the VLAND headlights not turning ofdf. Look for LED assemblies specifically designed for the 2007-2013 R56 models and advertised as "plug and play" or CAN bus compatible. Brands like JOLUNG and Spec-D Tuning are often mentioned positively by Mini owners, but always verify the exact model fitment and read reviews regarding compatibility. Consider professional installation if you're unsure about the wiring. Complete LED assemblies are generally recommended over just LED bulbs in the original halogen housings for optimal beam pattern and to avoid glare Oklahoma Toll Road Map

Hey Everyone;
I have a 2007 British Racing Green CooperS hatchback (R56). I want to change out the headlights to new LED lights. Does anyone have a recommendation ??? I did try the VLAND brand, but they didn't work, they would not turnoff until i locked my car.
Thanks. Jo
