"Murph" was a MK I. The earliest funny/lucky moment with that fun toy, was first evening drive on delivery day as he went to turn into our driveway and because the tie rod was nut on top the bolt fell out just after making it in.

He let me pilot the MK-I (or was it a MK II?) for a short time on the road rally at MME 03 in Magog Quebec although he didn't know me very well. I always want to say this car was from Gibraltar--is that correct? It was very peppy.  I recall the speedo didn't work but Robin told me to tell him what gear I was in and tell me the revs and he could mentally calculate the speed.  It was important for the rally to know how far we went as we found turns and waypoints and whatever.  We didn't finish last !

I'll always remember that!

Here are 2 pix from that day.

I know the moke name came from his moke being from Barbados, hence Barb.

Hi Matt,

I never met your Dad but did read his posts here as they came up. Always helpful or amusing or more likely both. I can still see his avatar photo in my mind. One of the good ones!

I always wondered where his login name "Zippypinhead" came from. Also why he named her "Barb". (My Mini has the name "Dersiree" because I wanted a Mini so badly.)

Cheers, Dan

I never had the chance to meet Robin, however he did help me a few times while I was restoring my moke. He showed me how a few of the parts were supposed to go back on. Also provided a stock seat cushion free of charge as a pattern when I was making new cushions. I now have his moke trailer that is still in use.

As some of you may remember, I happen to be thinking about Zippypinhead. Dad (Robin Jones) to me. I have been thinking about legacy!  The Moke (Barb) has been in a new home and has been used for almost 3 years.  A car is not nostalgic and is only a tool to achieve a goal.  My Father's legacy is mostly the stories and people he helped in this community and similar.  Don't be sad, I am not.  Focus on the good, and if you are willing, share some stories.
