Question:
I have a 1976 Classic Mini with a 1275CC motor. I need to get some new rotors and brake pads. Drums in the rear. I'm not sure what type to buy. Any chance you could help me out.
Answer:
If your Mini still have 10" wheels then you have the 7.5" rotors. see: https://www.minimania.com/part/21A1265/Classic-Mini-Cooper-S-Brake-Rotor-75-Inch-Diameter and the pads https://www.minimania.com/part/GBP103/Classic-Mini-Brake-Pad-Set-For-Cooper-S-75-Disc
If your Mini has 12" or 13" wheels I would suggest that you measure your existing brake rotors, they will be either 8.4" or 7.5" as listed above. If they are the 8.4" then this is what you need: https://www.minimania.com/part/MMKT0502/Classic-Mini-84-Brake-Rotors-And-Pads-Kit
As for the rear brake drums- all Mini can use the 7" brake drum. The only difference is that some models have a spacer built into them. The ones with the spacer simply require longer studs. https://www.minimania.com/part/21A22/Classic-Mini-Brake-Drum-7-Diameter or https://www.minimania.com/part/21A1279/Classic-Mini-Brake-Drum-With-1-Built-In-Spacer
The stock 8.4" rotors that you probably have are actually a very good system and is most likely all you would need unless you are planning on real performance upgrades. We offer a couple of options: https://www.minimania.com/part/GS126152/Classic-Mini-Brake-4-Pot-Calipers-For-84-Standard-Rotors or even higher-end options would be: https://www.minimania.com/part/MT310000-BK/Austin-Mini-Super-Brake-Kit-With-94-Brake-Rotors
We also offer a rear disc brake option but in my mind it is a waste of money as the rear of the car can not do much braking anyway: https://www.minimania.com/part/KAD003/Classic-Mini-Kad-Rear-Disc-Brake-Conversion-Kit
