Fuel gauge for late type Mini gauge clusters. Black face as used in the Mini Mayfair and other models from 1985-1989.
Question:
Part BAU5405, gas gauge. I have a 1988 Mini Mayfair, is the fuel voltage regulator built into this gauge? I have a new sender on order from you guys, should it not cure my problem, I have to suspect the voltage reg. My problem is that after filling full of gas in very short order my gauge drops quickly, if I refill when the gauge has just gone to empty I seldom get more than 3 or 4 gallons in the Saloon 9 gl.
Answer:
The AHU1029 controls the BAU5405 gas gauge.

Question:
I have a 1988 Mayfair, it has an extremely inaccurate fuel gauge. It never registers completely full. I will go down to 1/4 tank after not driving very far. When it registers empty right on the red line will not take more than 4.5 to 5.0 gallons in the 9 gallon tank. Does this type gauge have a voltage reg. like the older mini with Smith gauges? I did the test where I grounded the gauge, and it went right to full. I replaced with sender I bought from you guys. I’m at a loss. Is it possible the gauge is faulty or possibly having the wrong fuel send. Thought maybe there is a sender specific to this type of Non Smith Gauge.
Answer:
Hi,
The gauge is not likely to be the problem as you tried grounding the signal from the sender. I think you said that you also replaced the sender in the tank? If so there is not much left in the system- have you checked your ground connections? PS- this gauge doe NOT use a voltage stabilizer?
