Classic Mini Transmission Final Drive Gear Kit | 3.21:1 Ratio
The original Mini Cooper "S" had a gearbox final ratio of 3.44:1. At 65 MPH the engine is turning about 4000 RPM. Not only can this make the Mini Cooper driver go mad with the noise but the poor Mini Cooper engine can not take this abuse for the extended periods needed to traverse US highways.
The later model Mini Coopers use taller tires and have 3.1:1 transmission final drive gears as standard. The original stock Mini Cooper "S" engine only put out 72BHP when new, while today most Mini Cooper owners are not happy with much less than 100! With the increased horsepower at hand, the Mini Cooper can pull a much taller gear without giving up much acceleration.
