jeg, hope you consider this, i am really in dire need of these two items for my mini to run better(hopefuly)
--> an HIF38 carb and an electronic distributor , since you are sending an item to me, why not send one of your electronic dizzy as well. if the sump guard will suffice the trade thank you ,but if not. what do you want to trade for the dizzy? as much as possible we are avoiding cash flow in this deal... let me know what you think...
but wait let me ask, what is the edge or advantage of HIF38 over HS4?(the one where the gas bath is separated from the jet)?
i might be replacing my HS4 with same carb and condition,it doesnt make sense..u know what i mean? id like to know the plus factor of the HIF38 i you dont mind guys
wait im drivin right now.
lets ask malsal if the HIF38 will work on my manifold. im very interested with the deal but i wanna make sure if it will work.
I'm kind of surprised no one has pointed this out yet. It's a bit difficult to detirmine if the carb will fit when you don't show the side of the manifold it bolts to......
If you didn't want it or aren't sure it'll work, why did you post asking for one? Believe me, I wrestled with my conscience before I offered it to you. The classic conflict - I have one, someone says they 'need' one. What to do... Given it was you made it even more interesting - an opportunity for you to either sh*t or get off the pot. You didn't even do your homework...
Of course it won't come with the abutment plate, I cut it up and made a 3mm spacer with it. I've bought 2 HIF38's brand spankin' new from Berlen and never expected them to send an abutment plate - they sold me carburettors. If I needed an abutment plate, I'd ask them to sell me an abutment plate. If I needed an intake manifold, I'd need to buy an intake manifold. To keep it simple, did you want me to send my spare engine with the carb just so you have the correct intake & exhaust manifolds, the right spacer, the correct gaskets and the correct abutment plate? That won't happen... Oh, and the throttle cable, should you decide to do it right, will be part number SSB10126.
This next quoted post is the probable deal breaker for me, I'm likely done. Tony, I tried to help you, but you're beyond help. As far as I'm concerned, you can keep your narrow-minded wants and needs to yourself.
Hello armycook, that was my idea but as it stands now, looks like 'maybe' - I haven't seen any E-mails yet, so I don't know if I'm sending a carb.
Keeping in mind that I'm on vacation this week and will only be checking my E-mail once or twice each day, in the event that I don't see any E-mail within the next day or 2, would you like an HIF38 in exchange for the plate?
I don't want you to incur extra expenses producing a plate should everything fall through.
And i will bet you don't see any from the wanker John. He's never followed through on anything yet with any boardmember that involved "breaking down" his annonyminity. Don't waste your time.
Who are you talking about? Armycook or Boison? Wait I'm confused.. Is Armycook Boison's alter ego too????
Noviceparlor, are you the wife of Novaraptor?
i'm not convinced that you are a woman, no woman will know anything about "drill Press" which you previously mentioned. i know you just put up an account to make some mayhem here., i have been studying your posts and your choices of words are unlikely uttered by a lady. my crystal ball says you are a man. sorry to ruin your excitement.
plus, malsal mentioned about the word "wanker" and you immediately reacted., that made me conclude that you are indeed a male.
jeg,me and armycookie are closing a deal here until you came in the picture and ruined the transaction.
--->you are given 24hrs to defend yourself, i will listen
jeg, i wanna make sure if that carb of yours will work on my intake manifold, i posted a picture above.
Noviceparlor doesn't have to defend anything she said. What, you don't like women Marines? Don't like women who know tools and have technical skills? Assuming that Noviceparlor is indeed female, and I've no reason to doubt her, I think her husband is a lucky guy. Hyacinth isn't a pansy either; she knows what the tools are, can diagnose, troubleshoot and pretty much knows what I'm talking about, yet chooses not to enter the garage, let alone turn a wrench. She did make spelt biscuits (I made them last week) this morning and helped me dig an extention to the flowerbed, doubling it's size, at the estate today. I'm making raspberry muffins tomorrow morning with the raspberries that I picked today.
I hate to break it to you, dude, but I've known women mechanics who can put most men to shame and I've served with women soldiers who were not only tactically and technically exceptional, but exhibited far more discipline than their male counterparts - myself included. Some could also 'out PT' the guys too. Tough as nails, disciplined and fit - I found that to be an alluring coctail - in a purely professional manner, of course...
I offered an HIF38 carb to you, you'd send the sumpguard to armycook. If you want it, you'll have cut the crap, make a decision and E-mail me pronto with your address and E-mail armycook the tracking number/weight for the sumpguard pictured earlier in this thread that you're sending to him. I'll then send it to you. There are images of it posted earlier in this thread, take it or leave it.
No need for a throttle cable John he already took care of that with his 6 foot long scooter cable he found in the corner of the garage and i am sure he will figure a way to modify/botch the cable end so it holds in the new bracket.

No i am not giving away a $150 plus carb just the bracket with an email address. When can i expect that ???
1 3/4 is not a 38mm it is a 44mm carb.
They are not equally as good although they both serve the same purpose.
And again i have said this many times here you need to have the rest of the car in order before you mess with the carb (now i sound like Cup Cake).

hmm wait a minute, our host is selling a rebuilt HIF38 and a rebuilt HS4 with SAME price, this proves that BOTH carbs are equally good.
the thing tho is that i have a brand new rebuilt kit in my drawer(still in a plastic) for the HS4, bought few months ago. , what if i rebuild my HS4 first???? hmmmm? me think, think, think!!!
but jizz, where is jeg?? will he be out for a week? hope he flies to the US so i can meet him in person.

the only two issues tho are the throttle linkage(bigger and going to hit the manifold) and the the mount studs/ holes might not be matched.
but you guys know these things, i don't.
i can probably use the HS4 throttle linkage to fit the HIF38, that way it'll be shorter., and i will be using my existing air filter so i don't need to bang the firewall.
i dunno if i am getting a "better" carburetor(HIF38) over my existing HS4 , since jeremy thorpe and other members are highly recommending this kind of carb for a 998,it must be good. jeremy said this single engine three quarter HIF( i supposed he meant 38) is good for traffic light to traffic light daily driving, and the Weber Decoe is good for Autocrossing.
lets see some pics sir Alex...

How many cars would you like me post pictures of with an HIF38 or 44 retro fitted to a 998 ?
I have two on the drive and probably got photos of another one in bits <-- these aer just my cars, I've done the conversion for several other people.
Never had a problem using standard manifolds, though sometimes it pays to relieve the bulkhead if it is a particularly tight one like an all-in-one Metro cast iron manifold.

My HIF38 didnt fit perfectly in my 998. Had to replace my manifold into the manifold with minispares sign on top (which i heard eats space) also the dogbone into an adjustable support and tilt the engine forward by very few millimeters. Wasnt easy cause it wouldnt move a lot and remote shifter would hit the tunnel. Sad to say I had to pinch the firewall a little just to clear from engine vibes.
On top of the bracket, you will need the carb spacer so your carb wont get hot and to clear the throttle linkage to not hit the manifold. You should make some measurements now how much gap you got from that manifold to the edge of the firewall (given that manifold will fit the 1.5" opening and match the mount studs)
I got an email from the place where Im going to have the #67 plate printed and they wanted a lot of money just for one plate so Im still looking for a much cheaper place.. maybe downtown Los Angeles to avoid middleman companies.
Now his excuse will be he does not want it as it may bend the jet LOL.
lol, nah i just wanna make sure that it will work on mine because i dont want to unleash a 38 year old solid sump guard for a non fitting carb, but i know the carb is in tip top shape no doubt bout it.
thanks for the info Army, now i have a clearer picture of the set up
mal , does that Cam bracket of yours comes with an hif38 carb? do you have an extra?in case this deal gets dissolved?

Like i said send him an email i am sure he will reply to you. FWIW i have seen the old HS4 plate used on the HIF 38's with minor mods (no scooter parts) not the way i would do it but can be done with moderate skills, oh just forget what i typed i forgot who i was dealing with. In fact i have one here free to you for shipping costs, send me an email. Now what's your excuse ?????

the only thing i cant fabricate are stories...im not good at it. (yes, honestly)

Believe what you want, but generally a carb is a carb and doesn't come with the abutment plate.
I've used the same plate on two cars with three different carbs over the years.
My guess is that this will now be a deal breaker.
Oh yes this will be just another excuse from him.

If he can install a fan backwards and make it work I'm sure he can muck this one up too (and claim it works). Sorry to disappoint you Mr. Boison but this will be a big boy project for you and too bad the carb doesn't come with a mechanic.

An HIF 38 will fit to any 1½" manifold, even the two bolt type as the diagonal bolt spacing is the same.
You will however need the correct CAM4942 abutment plate to go with it.
Once again, a thread is derailed by Tony's crap...
Yes, but what if the picture he found on the interweb thingy* is a manifold for a 1-1/4" HS2 ?
*Can't be the picture of "his" manifold as he claims to be out driving....

it aint derailed, i was trying to determine if the carb will work before we shoot the love triangle deal.
then a bruce jenner wannabe jumped on the picture and trying to brainwash jeg not to send the carb because she/he? doesnt trust me . she derailed it, noviceparlor is a newbie that acts like a pioneer,, haaaay hormones!!! but she didnt reply anymore so i think she realized what she did was wrong. aaanyway,
so jeg, will the carb come with this CAM4942 thingy? let me know before you go on a weeks vacay.
Send him an email i am sure he will reply, his information is listed for all to see unlike yours.
FWIW he did not offer the plate with the carb so my guess is you will need to source one yourself or adapt one of your scooter ones or Harley Davidson flea market finds to fit.
i believe it should come with the CAM thing because if he sends the carb and leave the CAM behind what will he do with it?? turn in to a pedestal? it comes in as a set supposedly.
