F-SERIES ECU Upgrades will make your MINI even more fun to drive (yes, it's possible). Take your MINI's performance to the next level of awesomeness. ECU upgrades become more critical as you add more 'serious' engine upgrades such as Turbos or internal upgrades, but are also effective on a stock Mini.
R55-R61 ECU software upgrades skew towards performance by manipulating parameters such as ignition timing, fuel mixture, boost pressure, just to name a few. ECU upgrades become more critical as you add more 'serious' engine upgrades such as Turbos or internal upgrades, but are also...
This is a comprehensive guide on products can extract more performance, horsepower, and control out of your Mini Cooper. This article will list what types of upgrades are available for your Mini Cooper and Cooper S.
This procedure is intended for a basic "reset" of the ECU. It is not for clearing error codes or turning off CEL (check engine lights). Proceed at your own risk!
Intended for use with the following models:
2002-2006 R50 MINI Cooper and R53 MINI Cooper S Hatchback
2005-2008 R52 MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S Convertibles
How to Reset the ECU:
With the key in the ignition, but in the off position, press and hold down the odometer reset button with one hand.
While holding the button down, switch the key in the ignition to position 1 (first click) with the other hand. The screen will have a number and the word “TEST”.
Scroll through the numbers by pressing the odometer rest button, through to 19 and wait a moment. (Note: the number order is: 1, 2, 10, 19)
The message will say 19 "L i-off", flash to "L i-on", and back to "L i-off" again. When "log i-off" appears, press the odometer rest button again.
You are now in the system. Scroll through to 21. TEST and wait a moment. 21.0 RESET will come up. Press the button once.
Your gauges will now make some sounds and movements.
Once the lights come back on start your car. You have now reset your ECU and your MINI is now ready to relearn the new mods and your driving style.
I recently changed ahub sensor, now I have a constant orange light on the odometer. It's just a round orange light, I think its brake pad ware sensor how do you reset the system?
My 04 mini cooper is actually at AAMCO transmission. They have installed my rebuilt transmission. Now they are saying they have to get the car to recognize the transmission. They've had my car for over a month. Is there an easy way to get the computer to recognize the trans? Please help.
Answer:
I suspect you have the R50 Cooper with the CVT transmission.
When installing a new CVT transmission, there is a set procedure for initial operation and the adaptation values need to be reset. We do not have specific instruction for these procedures.
Sorry we are unable to help.

Question:
Mini one - with a flat tyre light up the battery went flat. Couldn’t open the car door as only one fob and key didn’t fit the drivers door so I had to open the drivers door with a home made metal pole via the drivers door window and releasing the bonnet catch. Removed battery / recharged and refitted. Now when key is in ignition all lights are present but when turning to start nothing happens - the start relay pulls in but nothing? Could this be the immobiliser?’ Do I have to reset the ECU?
Answer:
Have you measured the voltage output of your battery? A weak battery will prevent starting, yet allow all the lights to work... If the car has an automatic transmission - make sure it is in Park.

On a normal brake service, the pads (and rotors) and brake wear sensors are replaced. There is one brake wear sensor on the front left and one on the rear right.
The ABS light typically has nothing to do with worn brake pads or rotors. The ABS system uses the rotational speed sensors at each hub to monitor the wheel speeds.
If your technician says he can only read 3 of 4 hubs, I suspect he is referring to the rotational speed sensors. If this is the case, you have a bad speed sensor or the connection to the sensor is bad.

Get a hold of a OBDII code reader to see if there are any error codes recorded on the computer. This should tell you what area a problem may exist.
I could be the car is not recognizing the key - do you have any history on the car?

Lisa,
I'm sorry to hear of your Mini's issues. We can provide a rebuilt CVT transmission, but it will require special programming and adaptation procedures that require specialized equipment. The CVT transmission is NOT a simple 'bolt-in' and go type replacement.... For best results, we recommend the dealer to perform the replacement...

Mini Mania: Sounds like there is an issue with the sensor triggering the check engine light that needs to be corrected...
