The Genuine MINI Antifreeze/Coolant

One of the brands that meets these criteria is the MINI Cooper Coolant Antifreeze 1 Gallon Factory Recommended, which you can find on Mini Mania's website. This product is labeled as "RECOMMENED BY MINI" and has no phosphates or nitrites, which can cause deposits and clogs in your radiator. Blue in color (just like the original coolant that came with your MINI) with a 50/50 mix of water and glycol, this recommended antifreeze by MINI is designed to last for up to four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.  

 

Where is Your MINI Coolant Reservoir Located?

The coolant reservoir is located at the rear of the engine compartment, next to the power steering fluid tank. To access it, you need to:

  • Open the bonnet (hood) of your Mini Cooper by pulling the first release lever underneath the instrument panel on the passenger side, then pulling the second release lever under the bonnet.
  • The coolant reservoir has a MIN and MAX marking on it, and you should keep the coolant level between these two lines.
  • To add coolant, you need to unscrew the cap on the reservoir and pour the correct type of coolant / antifreeze for your Mini Cooper (check your owner's manual for details) until it reaches the MAX line.
  • Then, screw the cap back on and close the bonnet.

BMW/MINI also recommends Zerex G-48 by Valvoline as an alternative antifreeze. Also blue in color and has a similar composition and performance as the BMW or Mini Cooper antifreeze, Zerex G-48 is compatible with aluminum and magnesium engine components and has a long service life.
