Early history is unknown. Bought in 2013 from PO near Syracuse, NY, and reportedly spent its early years in or near Arizona. Originally with a 948cc motor, Desmond now has a rebuilt 1275cc MG Midget engine and head, rebuilt dual SU HS2 carbs, rebuilt rib case 4-speed transmission, new clutch, and throwout bearing, 3.9 differential, Pertronix ignition/coil, new exhaust, temperature gauge, Bosch 60 amp alternator (negative ground), and a crash-activated fuel pump cutoff switch. The engine does not smoke, burn oil abnormally or overheat. The clutch and transmission shift smoothly. The radiator has been cleaned and serviced. The heater works very well. Oil pressures by external gauge are normal at ~40 psi (warm idle) to ~70 psi (~3000 rpm) using 20W50 motor oil. Please note that Minors did not have oil pressure or temperature gauges. The engine (warm) has decent compression: 1. 137; 2. 141; 3. 131; 134 lbs/sq. in.

Desmond has refurbished or rebuilt seats, 4 seat & shoulder belts, a cassette AM/FM radio, a new headliner, new tires, new brake wheel and master cylinders, flex lines, shoes, and drums. All electric items work correctly, including the flashing light on the end of the turn signal stalk. The paint is in fair condition, with some scrapes and chips, but has missing roof paint spots due to past storing of the car under a damp vinyl sheet that popped the paint in a couple of places. Always garaged and never driven in precipitation under my ownership. The chrome bits are original and in fair condition. The original engine, various extra parts, and a 1098cc gold seal rebuilt engine can be included with the car. Total mileage is unknown but is believed to be approximately 55,000 miles.

Future projects would be new paint (same color), recalibrating the speedometer, and upgrading to front disk brakes. The totally replaced 7" drum brakes are still relatively weak by today's standards. A front sway bar would be a useful addition. With essentially a late '60s MG Midget drivetrain and nearly double the horsepower, this is now a car that can cope with modern traffic and hills. It's really quite lively. The top speed is 80+ mph, but it wasn't really intended for such speeds. This is a very good and reliable driver-quality car that under my ownership has always been run on non-ethanol gas. It always starts easily and runs well. It's easy to see why the Brits loved the Minor! More pictures are available on request, and repair/restoration manuals are included with Desmond.

Desmond has reliably made 300-mile trips (~28 to 32 mpg) and never fails to attract admirers. Of my several British cars, this one is definitely the "chick magnet." The ladies gather around and say how cute it is. Younger guys, however, frequently think it is a really nice old Volkswagen Beetle!
