The thermostat engine steady is aftermarket and the ground on the coil may be a suppressor for the radio. Brakes will need adjusting regulary as you have virtualy no engine braking with an auto unless you manually down shift it, it is also best to leave it in neutral at a red light if you are stopped for any length of time.
If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

Yes it is a 998 a+ auto. Ultimately it will be converted to a 3 Cylinder Auto Turbo... but I will not start that until atleast late fall. Would like to enjoy it for the time being and cruise to some shows and what not. I am enjoying it, was just curious as to "is this it", is that the final gear change? Haha. As far as oil changes, I just got the auto filter and oil, will hopefully have the time to change oil this weekend. The motor has a lot of little things I haven't seen on all of my other minis.. for instance, the coil has what looks like a ground to the bracket, engine steady to the thermostat, drum brakes all around that suck, worlds smallest exhaust. But it feels good to have a mini again. Just need to restrain myself and take my time putting it together.

Most important thing to remember with any Mini Auto.....change the oil regular. I never go over 2,000 miles between changes. Filter change every 2nd oil change. Be prepared for a slight mess when changing the filter. Unavoidable!

Yours will be a 998cc as it has no park like the later ones. 998cc auto's do scream at highway speeds as they use something like a 3.7 diff similar to the 848cc Mini's. If you shift it manually and get used to the best shift points they will pull a lot better but you will probably find you WERE in fourth. They always tend to shift too quick but the shift point can be adjusted with the rod on the side of the carb but on the early cars like yours you do need to get underneath to position the quadrant correctly before you adjust it. Is this one you will be converting ?

998 or 1275? The 998's always seemed to need a flat road and ideally a tailwind to get into top from my memory... Talk about underpowered.
It's been fun, but this place is done. I have no hatred, and appreciate the good times. But this place now belongs to Tony and his pink mini.

Just a curious question, but I have never owned a Auto Mini till now. It has the R, N, 3, 2, 1, D setup. When should it shift through gears at what mph? Does it have a long 4th? I've only had it up to 55mph, and was waiting for it to shift again.... Sometime. Does it have overdrive, or it typically goes into 4th around 30mph and that's it? Seemed like it would be screaming if I was on the highway. I am used to the manuals doing roughly 3800rpms or so at 70mph.
